SINGLES – How To Survive Hurts And Disappointments
Today’s devotional is about a decision we all have to make. Some people have been badly abused, cheated and taken for granted in their past relationships. They feel justified to hold their offenders in unforgiving spirit but the truth is that an unforgiving spirit holds you as a prisoner to the past.
You cannot be pregnant of yesterday and expect to deliver of your tomorrow and enjoy your today. Nature detest vacuum. It is either your heart is filled with the bitterness of yesterday or filled with the joy of today and the hope of tomorrow.
Some of you were rejected and forgotten by your fathers. Some of our mothers were not there when we needed them. They failed in their responsibilities to bring us up. Some mothers even abandon their babies. Some of those we love and hold in respect disappointed us, even abused and violated us.
For some, a trusted friend, aunty, brother, sister, cousin or even a fiancee betrayed your loyalty.
No matter the case, God understands. He knows the pain of the hurts. He loves you so much as you are but He also loves you too much to leave you the way you are. He desires your healing.
Remember He is a Doctor, the Physician. Doctors prescribe the medication for your recovery. The patient will have to trust the expertise of the doctor to receive his health back. No matter how painful or bitter the medication is, the patient has to follow through patiently. You endure the pain knowing it is just for a while…
Most medicines, injections, drips, operations or any recovery procedure are not palatable, but because our health is also very important, we endure them all.
I want you to see yourself as a patient today and Jesus as the doctor, telling you to forgive as a medication to heal your hurts and make you free again to live, love and laugh.
Remember you are not perfect either and always need the gift of forgiveness from God. The fact is that as long as you are still alive, you will hurt people, people will hurt you and you will need each other’s forgiveness.
To be continued…
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY My future is colourful and bright. I will not allow an unforgiving spirit to rob me of it. I receive grace to forgive all who have hurt and offended me
PRAYERS FOR TODAY Lord, I ask you to give me a loving heart like Jesus. Give me a heart that forgives and prays for those who despitefully use us.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Mat 6:14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
ACTION PLAN FOR THE DAY Make a list and forgive all and don’t keep an unforgiving spirit
Hi, beloved of Jesus, yesterday I spoke to you about an interesting topic and we will be continuing with it today because a sound health is a prized possession.
Just like you paid attention yesterday, I want you to also listen with your heart today and learn as much as you can.
We discussed why you must be clean, and centered our teaching on the saying “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”
I told you that as children of God, he wants you to live this kind of lifestyle, both in your heart and in your body. God wants you to be conscious of the things that go into your heart, and also what happens outside your body.
Once again let’s look at the dictionary meaning of the word Cleanliness and Godliness.
What is Cleanliness? It means the condition of being clean, or not dirty; the habit of always keeping clean.
What is Godliness? It is characterized by reverence and love for God and respect for the ethical teachings of scripture
Yesterday we looked at how to be clean at heart; today I want to talk to you about cleanliness in your body.
See what the bible says here…
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. – 3 John 2 (NIV)
God wants you to be in good health and that all may be well with you. Guess what?
Good health is one of the many things that Jesus Christ assures us because it’s a promise in the work of redemption.
You need to realize one thing, as much as sound health is a believer’s right, if you do not take care of yourself, you won’t enjoy this freedom.
We’ll continue with this tomorrow, kindly follow through.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be clean at heart and in my body; Amen
Action point: Decide to watch what goes into your mind.
What other benefits of gratitude do we have? Let us see more examples from the passage we read yesterday
Gratitude draws us closer to God
As he entered a village, ten men, all lepers, met him. They kept their distance but raised their voices, calling out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” Taking a good look at them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” They went, and while still on their way, became clean. One of them, when he realized that he was healed, turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus’ feet, so grateful. He couldn’t thank him enough — and he was a Samaritan. – Luke 17:12-16[MSG]
Mr. Bamidele has been ill for years. He was so ill that he spent all his life’s savings on his health. He moved from one health center to another, but all to no avail. It seemed as though the more he sought medical help, the worse his case became.
Luck however smiled on him one day, when he met a benefactor. This ‘good samaritan’ not only ensured he got to the best hospital in the world, he also paid for his hospital bills and other medical expenses.
When Mr. Bamidele got back to his feet, he got close to his benefactor, literarily serving him in the process. Who wouldn’t want to get closer to such a person?
Just like Mr. Bamidele, the leper who was healed naturally got close to Jesus.
One of them, when he realized that he was healed, turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus’ feet, so grateful. He couldn’t thank him enough — and he was a Samaritan. – Luke 17:15-16
The leper couldn’t but imagine the magnitude of God’s kindness towards him. He had to go back to give him thanks.
Little children, let us learn to show gratitude everyday of our lives.
Prayer: Father, help me to show gratitude at all times. Amen
Action Point: Keep showing gratitude.
Declaration: I will not murmur. I will give thanks to God at all times.
A devourer is anything that eats up greedily or a voracious eater. It can also be defined as anything that consumes for nourishment. Devourer is used in the Bible to describe anything that seeks to steal, kill and destroy. It particularly seeks to waste resources, years, food, time, and anything of benefit.
Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer [insects and plagues] for your sakes and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine drop its fruit before the time in the field, says the Lord of hosts. – Mal 3:10-11
The antidote for rebuking the devourer according to the Bible is paying of tithes. The Devourer is to be rebuked, not cried over or ignored but rebuked. Your tithe forms a basis and gives you a voice to effectively rebuke the devourer.
Non-payment of tithe gives the devourer the license to devour anything valuable to you, from your health, children, marriage, finances, time, relationships, career, opportunities, to peace of mind.
Some people argue about the tithe. Some even say it is an Old Testament law that should not be obeyed. There are different arguments about the issue of tithing, especially on social media.
One thing is sure. If you are a faithful tither, the blessing you enjoy from it will not make you want to stop paying it. Your tithe is the first 10% of any income that comes your way and God commands us to pay it as a sign of honor to him.
You pay your tithe by being in awe and reverence of God, you do it first thing when you receive the income. That is honor.
When we put and keep our faith alive in the covenant of tithing, we set in motion the protective power of God in staying the hands of the enemy to waste or destroy from us.
You rebuke the devourer by speaking boldly and commanding the devourer to take its hands off everything you hold dear. You command sicknesses and diseases not to come near your abode.
Is it that we are paying God so that we don’t experience the devourer? Not exactly! It is a covenant principle and covenant practice. You do your human part and then God does His part.
As we obey this instruction, may God hear us in the day of trouble, and may the name of the God of Israel defend us in Jesus name.
God bless our marriages
