Don’t Pay Evil For Evil

Don’t Pay Evil For Evil

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Don’t pay evil for evil. ‘Look! It’s Taye’. Dele pointed out to Femi as they walked home from school. ‘He’s alone. Now you can do whatever you want to him” Dele urged, his eyes gleaming with vengeance.

‘Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone’ (NIV)

Romans 12:7

Taye had stumbled into Femi on purpose earlier today at school during lunch break. Femi’s whole lunch had spilled over his white shirt. This earned him a huge reprimand from the teacher. And his mom was still going to do so too at home.

Dele was right, this was the perfect opportunity to pay Taye back. He remembered what he had learned from the devotional this morning. He remembered the verse in the Bible.

‘Be kind and compassionate to one another. Forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you’.

Ephesians 4:32

‘No, I won’t do anything to him’ he shrugged his shoulders.

‘Are you serious?’ asked a dumbfounded Dele. ‘He bullies you all the time’.

‘My mom read today in the devotional that Jesus said I don’t have to be mean to him also’. He gave Taye a wide smile and waved as they passed him.

‘Did you just smile and wave at him?’ Dele asked, his eyes huge as lemons.

‘Yeah, I did’, said a happy Femi. He felt good as he walked on. ‘I am going to pray for him instead’.

People will always hurt us no matter how good we are to them or others. Being obedient to Jesus is not to hurt people back when they hurt us.

Declaration:
I learn to forgive. I will not pay evil with evil.

Prayer:
Dear Jesus, I want to obey you by not hurting back anybody that has hurt me. In your mighty name, I pray. Amen.

Unveiling The Lust Hidden In Love

Unveiling The Lust Hidden In Love

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The scriptures talk about the way of a serpent upon the rock, right in the church! How did something so sinister find its way into something so good?

Let’s look at some dimensions of lust hidden or masked in love this morning. You think it is love, but it is actually lust! What a contradiction!

1. The Fainting

Oh! Give me something refreshing to eat—and quickly! Apricots, raisins—anything. I’m about to faint with love!

Son 2:5 (MSG)

Ladies are enthralled by attention and non-verbal expressions of love.

Their goals are different. The lady wants care, attention, and love. The guy wants sex, period!

The contradiction of goals results in confusion of the soul.
Two cannot walk together except they be agreed…

2. The Cradling

His left had cradles my head, and his right arm encircles my waist!

Son 2:6 (MSG)

In no time, his manifesto begins in aggressive fulfillment of intentions.

The left hand that should be busy with the meals travels to the head and cradles it lovingly or “lustingly?”

The right hand in daring progression surpasses the timidity of the left hand and encircles the waist.
Desires travel into blood veins.

The heart races and gallops like a horse who just sighted waters!
A rush of adrenaline colliding with dopamine!

Hey! Destinies are about to be ruptured. Glorious futures are about to be tainted. Promising ministry hopefuls about to morph into miseries!

3. The Stirring

Oh, let me warn you, sisters in Jerusalem, by the gazelles, yes, by all the wild deer: Don’t excite love, don’t stir it up, until the time is ripe—and you’re ready.

Son 2:7 (MSG)

Oh, there comes a warning
Don’t do it.
Don’t excite love!

In a moment, his voice and words are so gentle and caressing, the next moment, his biceps pins you to the wall in a wicked hold, because love has been excited. Be warned!

Eh, the time is not ripe. You are not ready!

Don’t let the “glee” take over the “flee!” It is time to flee!

Oh, let me warn you, sisters in Jerusalem, by the gazelles, yes, by all the wild deer…

The gazelles and the wild deer know how to run from the enemy!

Run!
Flee!
Don’t go to that guest house again.
Don’t follow him to that hotel again.
Don’t go and meet him on campus again.
Don’t frolic with him in the office again.
Don’t take his money again, because his money controls you.

Take a cue from the gazelles and the wild deer. When they see the lion crouching, they take off. They are not ready to be preyed upon.

Don’t be a prey! Don’t even follow him home!

As a father, I say to my daughters, don’t excite love, don’t stir it up, until the time is ripe—and you’re ready.

Have a great day!

God bless you!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY
I love genuinely. I am not filled with lust

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Lord, help me to love genuinely.

How To Stay Committed In Marriage

How To Stay Committed In Marriage

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A person is said to be committed when he or she is pledged or bound to a certain course or policy, when he or she is devoted to a task or purpose, exclusively allocated to or intended for a particular purpose.

So a person is committed to his/her spouse when he/she is bound or pledged to the course of the marriage covenant.

First, being committed to your spouse is a thing of the heart. You must have it settled in your heart that you have the best spouse given to you by God.

You may have to work hard at achieving being the best. Being committed to your marriage vows is doing everything possible to keep the bond of peace.

There will always be differences but the ability to handle our differences in a mature way is love.

A good understanding of what is expected of you as a married couple is very important. You must have a personal vision for your marriage.

It shows you are 100% committed to your spouse when you give him/her your undivided support. Some are giving their support but it is not full support.

Did you miss out on yesterday’s devotional, we’ve got you covered kindly go HERE. For KHC video Devotionals kindly go HERE

Some are committed and in the marriage as long as their feathers are not rough and everything is fine.

Job’s wife was not totally committed. Our commitment is revealed more during the hard times. I believe that is why the marriage vows says ‘ ….for better for worse, for richer for poorer’ that is 100% commitment.

Ruth is a good example of a wife that is committed. Her commitment was even unto death and way after death.

Ask yourself are you like Ruth or Jobs wife?

In these days when husbands and wives commitment to each other are just on border line. We ask God to give us Christian homes and make us Christ like husbands and wives, whose commitment is 100%

God bless our marriage.

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY
I am committed to my marriage.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Lord, help me to be committed to my marriage

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
1 Corinthians 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

My Children Are Truthful Always

My Children Are Truthful Always

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Be truthful always. Children think that when they are not caught red-handed in the act of wrongdoing, they are safe. Even when caught, they still might want to lie to wriggle out of it. That is an error.

Lovingly, we can help them see the error in this and show them what the bible says about it.

‘I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you’. (NIV)

Psalms 119: 11

We should punish them first, lead them towards an apology and make them understand why we are punishing them.

Punishment must always be in proportion to the wrongdoing not higher. They should know it is done out of love and not hate.

‘Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy’. (NIV)

Prov. 28:13

Prayer:
Lord, I release my child (say their name(s)) to You. Touch their hearts not to hide their wrongdoings. Even when caught, help them not to lie. Help me lovingly to scold and punish them accordingly. Amen.

Action point:
Confront your children on any issue you discover.

Declaration:
My children are truthful. They understand the dangers of telling a lie. They do not hide their wrongdoings.

Dealing With Strong Desires That Comes With Love

Dealing With Strong Desires That Comes With Love

Reading Time: 2 minutes

1. The Strong Desires

Son 2:3-7 (MSG) As an apricot tree stands out in the forest, my lover stands above the young men in town. All I want is to sit in his shade, to taste and savor his delicious love.

Well, born again or not, there is a strong desire that comes with falling in love. If you like, speak in tongues till tomorrow, this desire will not go.

But what can be subdued is lust that often wants to tag along, like Lot tagged along with Abraham.

Yes, the desire will not go, because there is nothing wrong with the desire, it is the fulfillment of the desire at a wrong time that gets us into trouble.

So, all you want when you fall in love is that you want to sit down in each other’s shade, with feelings of wanting to taste and savor the delicious love.

I felt like that.
She felt like that.
But we waited.
You can wait as well.

No matter how intense the desire is, do not taste that love before wedding. Tasting love and consummating your love before wedding is like stealing a hot meat from the pot of stew before it is ready.

Your taste bud gets burnt and you can lose your sense of taste, which ultimately leads to tasting more pot of stew that does not belong to you!

2. The Feasting of the Eye Rather Than On The Meal

Son 2:4 (MSG) He took me home with him for a festive meal, but his eyes feasted on me!

So she followed him home or to some guest house for a meal. Let’s just eat out.

May we not dine with the wrong person. May we not eat up our destinies.

The guy had more plans than just the meal.

Ladies, be careful who buys free meals for you, you might be paying for it soonest.

Rather than for the guy to feast on the meal, his eyes were riveted on the damsel.

Essentially, men are moved by sight.

Men, watch what you see. Ladies, watch what is seen.

I will stop here this morning.

Have a blessed day!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY
I will not fall in love carelessly

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Lord, let my strong desires be for you

How Do You Handle Anger in Your Marriage?

How Do You Handle Anger in Your Marriage?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

This is an important topic because every one of us gets angry.  Anger is probably the most common vice in every marriage.  Every couple, white or black, colored or Asian gets angry at least once in a day.

Whether we get angry or not is not the point here, how we handle our anger is. Some couples have outbursts of anger while others suppress theirs.

Neither one of them is good. The explosive anger is bad because things may have been destroyed sometimes beyond repairs. It is like the effect of a raging fire.  It has no time to wait and discern.

The quiet kind of anger, that is suppressed usually comes with withdrawal. It is like rain that eventually causes floods.

It is our responsibility to master it.

Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

God recognizes the fact that being angry is not a sin in itself. But anger has to be controlled not to cross the line of sin.

God gave us permission to get angry but it must be over by end of day. In other words, ‘Do not stay angry’.

As a couple, you will experience your spouse getting angry at most times, because he or she is human, but you have to learn how to forgive him/her quickly.

Did you miss out on yesterday’s devotional, we’ve got you covered kindly go HERE. For KHC video Devotionals kindly go HERE

It crosses into the devil’s zone when your anger causes bitterness, strife, hatred, and the likes.  When you meditate on your anger, you give the devil time and space to expand it.

That is one of the reasons suppressing anger is evil.

Read on how to manage your anger. Seek God’s help and think of methods that work for you that will help you.

Remember, anger not controlled or managed can destroy your marriage or at least steal your unity and oneness.

God bless our marriage

CONFESSION OF THE DAY
I master my anger, I dwell with my spouse with understanding

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Lord, give me understanding and wisdom to master my anger.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

How To Show Appreciation

How To Show Appreciation

Reading Time: 2 minutes

You must learn how to show appreciation. Tobi looked at the money in his hand, glared at his father in unbelief. What will five thousand naira fetch him at school as pocket money? Is this man from another planet, he thought? He murmured a “Thank you” to his father before storming away. I will just put it under my pillow and not go to school, he said to himself. That was exactly what he did.

Tolu, his twin brother, thanked their father profusely, prostrating as he did. He calculated how he was going to spend it to ensure that it lasted him for one month. A business idea even came to his mind. He smiled as he thought of the idea.

This much relates to the story of talents in the bible. We read how each was given an amount, how each spent it, who was praised, and who was punished.

God expects us to be grateful first for everything we have through our parents or others.

He also expects us to keep well everything we have. We should keep our rooms neat and tidy, ensure our clothes are washed and well arranged. We should handle our toys, shoes, books, and all we own well. Whatever we don’t use anymore, we can give out to someone else. He expects us to save our money or put it to good use.

Are you like Tobi and the ungrateful servant? Or you are like Tolu and the two servants who used their talents well?

Each had a reward? Which reward would you like to have?

The good –

“The master said, well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling the small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!”(NLT)

Matt.25:23

The bad –

“To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.” (NLT)

Matt 25:29

Be grateful for all you have and use them well.

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for everything I have. I am grateful for my parents and all the people you have used to bless me. Teach me how to take care of my things. Help me make good use of them, in Jesus name. Amen.

Declaration:
My children are grateful. They are not like the foolish servant who hid his talents. They make good use of what is given to them.

Why It Is Important To Marry A Friend

Why It Is Important To Marry A Friend

Reading Time: 2 minutes

1. Friends love each other

Friendship is like a foundation of relationship upon which a great marriage is built. Marry your friend! Whoever is not a friend, is not worth a marriage relationship.

Friends love each other.
Friends forgive each other.
Friends look after one another’s good.
Friends talk and play.
Friends do not “form” for each other.
Friends pray together.
Friends easily overlook each other’s mistakes.
Friends cover for each other.

If your lover is not a friend, there will be issues.

Do not marry a “father” or a “mother” or an “uncle,” rather marry a friend.

If he or she is not a friend, don’t walk down the aisle.

2. Friends are thoughtful and sensitive

A friend doesn’t just blab, he knows what to say, when to say it and how to say it.

A friend is careful not to get you unnecessarily aggravated. That is the kind of person you need in marriage.

An understanding person. A person on whose shoulder you can lean. A hearing ear, understanding heart, and empathic listener.

The one that will not allow you to say anything while you are courting is already showing you that you will be muted in marriage. And that can be frustrating.

Nothing is as frustrating as unexpressed and bottled up words and feelings.

A friend enjoys your “talk” although you should not resort to nagging.

3. Friends are truthful

Friends would always tell you the truth.

Beware of people who say they are your friends and all they do is to tell you what you want to hear, and flatter you all the time.

A flattering neighbor is up to no good; he’s probably planning to take advantage of you.

Pro 29:5 (MSG)

Marry a friend who can tell you the truth, because you often time get to positions that it is only your spouse that can tell you the truth.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Pro 27:6 (KJV)

The one that is kissing you but will never tell you as it is is not a friend. He or she is not ready to tell you anything that will cause the “kissing” to discontinue. That person is not really a friend.

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY
I will get it right in marriage

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Pray that God will lead you to the right person.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
1 Corinthians 13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

ACTION PLAN FOR THE DAY
Disconnect from every wrong relationship

Symptoms of A Marriage That Needs Attention

Symptoms of A Marriage That Needs Attention

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Signs or symptoms make us pay attention to certain areas of our lives.

There are certain signs or symptoms that our marriage shows that make us know that it is time to pay attention to our marriage.

When you have a headache, it is a sign that you need to pay attention to your body. Something is wrong somewhere. It could be a result of body weakness or something.

Finding out what went wrong is a whole lot of effort on its own

After you find out what is wrong, you then take the right medicine to cure or get rid of the symptoms.

In the same way, our marriage shows certain signs that make us aware of the fact that our marriage needs help.

Here are some of those signs:

Did you miss out on yesterday’s devotional, we’ve got you covered kindly go HERE. For KHC video Devotionals kindly go HERE

1. Observation from friends and family.

When friends and family begin to ask questions and are worried about the way your marriage is going. When things are obviously wrong and it is visible to your friends. Then you need to retrace your steps and begin paying attention to your marriage.

2. When your children’s attitude begins to change.

There are several ways when things are not cordial between husband and wife, that affect the children.

They may become withdrawn, stubborn, sickly, prone to domestic accidents, lower performance in school. Once you begin to see these signs, then your marriage needs attention.

3. Physical abuse

If there is any kind of abuse in your marriage then that marriage needs attention. Either you visit a marriage counselor, read books, pray, listen to messages, or change your attitude or behavior.

When either of the spouses becomes violet or threatens in the marriage, then your marriage needs attention.

Note that in all these, it is not about who is right or wrong, it’s about quick intervention in the marriage, and proffering solutions to wherever the problem is.

4. Withdrawal

When either of the spouses is withdrawn and no longer enjoys the company of the other spouse, that marriage needs quick intervention. When the couples are nothing but mere bed mate or housemate

When silence becomes the order of the day and you find it difficult to share your thoughts, feelings etc. That marriage needs help. When the new normal is monosyllable questions followed by monosyllable answers, your marriage needs help.

I will stop here today and continue tomorrow by God’s grace.

May God send us needed help at the right time.

God bless your marriage.

Knowing What To Give This Season

Knowing What To Give This Season

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Do you know what to give this season? The bible tells us that we are wonderfully and beautifully made by God. Can you imagine yourself as beautiful and wonderful? Do you see yourself as ordinary? Do you see yourself as someone with no talent or gift, with nothing to give or share with others?

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Ps 139:14, KJV

God couldn’t have made you so beautiful and wonderful then leave you empty. No. You are a masterpiece from the Creator’s hands. Even the stones He created give praise to His name when you admire them. When you look at the rainbow in the sky and smile, you are praising God

Your Creator didn’t create you without something to give. No one should complain that they have nothing to give.  You have something to give. It could be a thing or an action.

You have a lot to give, children. More than you can ever imagine. You could give out your clothes if you’ve outgrown them, your toys, shoes, or books. Do you know that your smile could be a gift to someone who is down and just needs someone to notice and smile at them?

Your time is also a gift you can give to teach a friend or classmate who is struggling to understand lessons at school.

Praying for others is another thing you can give. You can pray for your parents, guardians, friends, siblings, pastor, teachers, neighbours, classmates, and so on.

Helping your parents or guardians at home is another good way to use your time.

Whatever it is you plan to give to others, ensure you tell your parents or guardians.

God bless you as you give. Amen.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for how you made me. I am glad that I have more than I give. Teach me new ways to give to others. Enable me to be a giver, to the glory of your name, amen.

Declaration:
My children learn to give. They do not withhold more than necessary.

Concerning Angry Lovers

Concerning Angry Lovers

Reading Time: 2 minutes

For singles, work on your anger. Anger can make men run away!

Guys are logical, so in each of your anger episodes, they are thinking about what will happen after wedding and they are making up their minds.

That could, on few occasions, be the reason why some guys just disappear after promising weeding! They got scared!

I am not asking you to pretend. I am asking you to work on it. Read books on anger management. Read scriptures that talks about anger. Some of them will humble you.

For example,

Don’t be quick to fly off the handle. Anger boomerangs. You can spot a fool by the lumps on his head.

Ecc 7:9 (MSG)

Does that lump appear on your heard when you are pissed? The Bible is saying that it is foolishness to be given to uncontrollable anger.

Anger can end relationships. Anger can scatter relationships. Anger can divide a God ordained relationship!

Let’s take a look at two angry brothers in the Bible.

Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. [6] O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall. [7] Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

Gen 49:5-7 (KJV)

Anger leads to division and scattering.

The Message Translation is apt in verse 7

A curse on their uncontrolled anger, on their indiscriminate wrath. I’ll throw them out with the trash; I’ll shred and scatter them like confetti throughout Israel.

Gen 49:7 (MSG)

Your God ordained love affair not be shredded! Your courtship or marriage will not end in the trash! Your home will not be scattered like confetti!

I will not fall in love with an angry lover.

Lord, deliver me from an angry lover

How To Get Fresh Wine For Your Marriage

How To Get Fresh Wine For Your Marriage

Reading Time: 2 minutes

How To Get Fresh Wine For Your Marriage. Every once in a while, it is important to attend a place where other couples are sharing their experiences.

We all experience burn out and we often get tired of the whole daily routine of house chores, taking care of the children, wives tending the home and taking care of the husband, going to the market, husbands going to work daily looking for money to pay bills and so on.

All these routines day in day out leave us sometimes frustrated and just getting along.

However, the wine of marriage must be kept renewed from getting stale because of the imminent dangers.

There are marriage ministers and ministry set aside and instituted by God to help us. Marriage could be the greatest blessing and as well the greatest regret of one’s life, depending on how it is handled.

Marriage is highly spiritual and it takes spiritual principles to have a blissful marriage. For example, you cannot be selfish and expect your spouse to live joyfully with you. Because it is spiritual, we often need men of God to speak into our lives and marriage and break satanic strongholds off our marriages.
