Your spirituality is very important! It is very important to your advancement in life. Your spiritual life is a very important part of you.
Part of your activities to advance includes reviewing your spiritual life and asking yourself the following questions
1. Did you create a time for prayers? If yes, how well did you keep to this time? How long did you spend in prayers? Did you pray in the Holy Ghost and for how long?
2. How many times did you fast this year? From morning till afternoon? Morning till evening? Weekly? Monthly?
3. How many times did you attend church?
4. Do you serve in your church as a worker?
5. Did you pay tithes and give offerings?
6. How many times did you read the Bible? Or even opened it?
These are just some questions that can guide you in making better decisions concerning your spiritual life.
Having your Bible is great. I remember my first bible. It was a teenager’s bible with many illustrations, quizzes, puzzles, a place to write my name, favorite verses and bible characters, and a lot more.
Having my own personal bible really fascinated me. I wasn’t going to share reading it with another person and I could read and make notes in the places provided. It was mine.
‘Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path.’ (GNB)
Psa. 119:105
What I enjoyed most about that experience was that God’s words became my own. The feeling that I could pick it up to read and study was the high point of the whole experience. Reading those words felt as if God was Himself talking to me directly.
‘The Almighty God, the Lord, speaks; he calls to the whole earth from east to west.’ (GNB)
Psa. 50:1
As you claim ownership of your things, you should do the same for a bible. Owning a personal bible is a start towards developing a personal relationship with God, knowing His words, and accepting Christ at an early age.
You’ll also know why you need to attend church and the benefits of having friends that are believers like you.
As a child, knowing God’s words helps you to handle the many situations, people, and stages of your childhood. You won’t have to struggle because you can pray and receive answers. Bible verses will be at your fingertips to speak and confess concerning any situation.
‘Then you will know how to behave properly, and your words will show that you have knowledge.’ (GNB)
Prov. 5:2
Do you own a personal bible? Is it according to your age? Ask your parents or guardian(s) for one today. God bless you as you do.
Prayer: Lord, I want to know your words. Help me to cherish, read, and study my bible. Speak to me. Teach me Your words, in Jesus name, Amen.
Action Point: Ask your parents to buy you a bible
Declaration: My children follow what the word says. They are students of the word. They read and understand the bible.
There is ‘how to know God More.’ In one of the past devotionals, we talked about having confidence in God because, with Him, our glorious future is secured.
We should seek to know God more, pleasing Him in all ways.
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.
Jeremiah 29:12 ESV
If you want to know God more, you should always do the following;
Read and meditate
2. Pray
3. Confess the Word of God
4. Obey
Reading and meditating on God’s word involves you always asking the Holy Spirit to teach you and grant you understanding through the word of God.
When you do this, the light of God will fill your heart.
This is because we receive revelation and instructions when we read God’s word.
So basically, today is our wedding anniversary! It has been twenty-two years! God has been good. God has been good over us and our children.
It has not always been an express road with so smooth a ride, but it has been one filled with bumps and pot-holes!
However, our marital vehicle did not break down! God kept us. At some times, the engine nearly got knocked, but God did not allow it.
Below are twenty-two things we have learned in twenty-two years of marriage
1. God leads. He always does. Finding out His Will for your life is the most beautiful thing you can do.
2. God’s mercy is real. Without that mercy, nothing remains, really. That is why we are alive! That is why we have not been consumed.
It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Lam 3:22 (KJV)
3. Communication is key. The absence of it can lead to the marital life being maimed.
4. Become friends before becoming lovers. Don’t jump. Follow the process.
5. Prayers are important. Talk to God about everything. I mean everything.
6. Be a voracious book reader. Read like your life depended on it.
7. Start your day with His word. That day will be blessed.
8. Loose living and an indisciplined sexual life will always terminate in regrets.
9. Get ready for the conflicts that come from male-female differences. Read ahead and be prepared to handle them.
10. Stay honest. Stay on the side of truth. The truth will always set free.
11. Be open with each other. It’s naked and not ashamed.
12. Be sacrificial. Seek to please your partner. That is the simple definition of marriage. Seeking to please him or her. You see, after pleasing God, the next person to please is your spouse.
To be continued tomorrow.
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY I will not miss it in marriage.
PRAYERS FOR THE DAY Oh Lord, increase my passion for my lover.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY 1 Corinthians 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Just as you study your textbook as a school student, you also have to study the Bible as a spiritual student that you are. As a student, you have textbooks for each subject you are taught in school. As a child of God, the Bible is your spiritual textbook too. Inspired by God to teach you about Him and what He wants you to do.
Textbooks are meant to be read and studied so that you can best understand a subject. You spend time reading and studying them. If the Bible is your spiritual textbook, then you should also spend time studying it too. Pick a book from it, read and study. You just have to study the Bible.
Forming the habit of regularly reading and studying your bible is a brilliant way to grow your spiritual life. Starting early in life is the best. Because as you grow up, it becomes a part of you and you won’t be able to stop reading and studying your Bible. You won’t rest until you study the Bible.
Like Samuel who began to serve in the temple at a young age.
Now Samuel was ministering before the Lord, as a child dressed in a linen ephod [a sacred item of priestly clothing] 1 Samuel 2:19 AMP
His mother gave him to God as she had promised. Under Eli, Samuel learnt about the ways of God and how to serve Him. And as he grew into an adult, with the knowledge of the things of God (…And the boy Samuel grew before the Lord 1 Samuel 2:21 AMP) he became a mighty prophet of God.
The Bible is filled with so much knowledge that will grow your spirit, mind and soul. You just have to study the Bible for yourself. Inside the Bible, you will find stories of love, hate, fear, anger, redemption, and much more. You could read it in the morning, afternoon or at night before you sleep. Even if you have a daily devotional that you read, it still doesn’t take the place of your personal Bible reading plan.
Study the Bible daily. Let regular Bible reading be a part of your daily life. God bless you as you do so. Amen.
Prayer: Father in Heaven, thank You for the Bible. I receive help to study the Bible daily. Amen.
Action plan: Pick a version of the Bible, and start to read. As you do so, note things down and ask your parents to explain further for you. Or just ask the Holy Spirit.
