Adventures with God – Joshua and God

Adventures with God – Joshua and God

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Joshua and God also had their own adventures together! As we continue this series, we will be looking at the life of Joshua today.

After the death of Moses, the Israelites needed a new leader.

After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them- to give to the Israelites. (Joshua 1:1-2 NIV)

Moses died before he got to the Promised Land and God needed to fulfill His promise to Abraham. So, God chose Joshua to continue from where Moses had stopped. Since he had been an aide to Moses, he was the best fit for the job of leading the descendants of Jacob to the promised land. And so it became Joshua and God.

Joshua also fought many wars to win land for his kinsmen. God also showed and used His great power during this period. Through praise, he had the wall of Jericho fall down so that the Israelites could defeat the people of Jericho. The Jordan also parted for the Israelites to walk through it just like the Red Sea, in the time of Moses. The sun stood still so the Israelites could win their fight against the Amorites (chapter 10) and victories over many more battles. It was in Joshua’s time that each tribe of Israel received their portion of the land promised them by God. This is part of the adventures of Joshua and God.

God was with Joshua just like He was with Moses. He did everything He promised. He gave provision and protection as always. On any adventure, God always watches over His children.

May the Lord be with you always. Amen

Prayer:
Joshua and God had adventures. Lord, as you were with Joshua, be with me also. Help me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Action point:
Read up on Joshua from the book of Joshua.

The Joy of The Lord Over My Life

The Joy of The Lord Over My Life

Reading Time: 2 minutes

You need the joy of the LORD. Constant joy is one of the things you have when you are a child of God. You know that things will be fine because God is in control. He is in control because He knows all things and how to make things happen or not happen.

Your worries shouldn’t be so great that you won’t be joyful. Why? Because, God will take care of you. No matter what you are facing, anywhere or anytime. If someone is making fun of you all the time at school, God knows how to deal with such people on your behalf. Don’t get sad or worried. Let the joy of the LORD be your strength. Just pray with verses such as the ones below:

The Lord is my strength and song. And He has become my salvation (Psalm 18:14 AMP).

Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, For the Lord God is my strength and song’ Yes, He has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2 AMP.

Use them to build your trust in God always. When worries come your way and it seems like there is no hope of a solution or that help isn’t coming, speak these verses. Say them over and over and as much as you need to till you feel the joy of God inside of you… till the joy of the LORD wells up inside you

Never let anyone or anything steal your joy. It is your God-given right. Jesus died on the cross for you so that your joy may be complete.

You should be joyful always because your joy comes from God. He alone gives joy like no one or anything in this world can.

May the Lord keep blessing you with His joy. Amen.

Prayer:
Father in heaven, I ask that your joy will never leave me. Teach me how to keep it always inside of me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Action Point:
Write down some verses on joy and daily read them as you go about your day.

Here Is How To Love Your Spouse

Here Is How To Love Your Spouse

Reading Time: 2 minutes

How do you know how to love your spouse? This is an all-important question that we all try to answer ever since we got married. We all are still trying to answer it and we will still be answering it till death do us part. It is an awesome truth that only death is supposed to part husband and wife. Apart from that, no other thing is permitted to separate us.

Some of us need to learn and be taught how to love our spouses. No matter how complex they are, you have the capacity to love your spouse with the love of God. It is actually spiritual to love your husband/wife. There is nothing carnal in loving your spouse.

These are some ways

1. Love God first of all
This is the very first step in loving your husband/wife, love God. A spouse that doesn’t love God cannot love his/her spouse. God is love and it takes a heart that knows God to love. You love God by loving His Word and doing His will.

When you love God this way, it becomes easier for you loving your spouse because you would have developed the capacity to love and put the flesh under. Human nature is generally selfish and does not want to love unconditionally.

God expects us to love our spouse unconditionally.

2. Know that you need God all the way
Loving God is not something you do half half-heartedly or once and for all or once in a while. Because you cannot fully know God completely, you have to keep yearning for more of him. The more you discover about God, the more you want to love him. So in loving God, you become a God chaser.

I have seen in my own experience that, the more I chase after God the better I love my husband

To be continued…

Is God First In Your Marriage?

Is God First In Your Marriage?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

This is a question we need to ask ourselves from time to time. “Is God first in my marriage?” How do you deliberately keep God in that first place in your marriage?

You do that by making His word come first place in your relationship or marriage

How do you do that?

You read His word regularly.

You study His word regularly.

You obey His word all the way.

Let God be the first place.

When you have this covenant attitude, it will help you to resolve issues quickly in your marriage. You wouldn’t want to disobey God with strife and bitterness.

Listen to me, husbands, when you are angry with her, and you stay away from her and you refuse to talk with her, you are tampering with the blessings of God upon you as a family.

It is right there in the scripture:

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. (1 Peter 3:7 KJV)

Treating your wife roughly can run prayer aground!

Wives, when you stay hurt over trivial issues and refuse all apologies or you refuse to apologise, you are actually playing with fire in the spiritual realm.

I jokingly said in an interview I had that my wife doesn’t say sorry to me. I say all the “sorry!”

But you see, in the first few years of our marriage, I didn’t use to say sorry! She said all the “sorry!”

So I guess she had exhausted her quota of “sorry” because she said it so many times! Now she doesn’t say it again, so I had to take over! It doesn’t diminish me a bit; the important thing is that somebody says “sorry!” That’s the goal.

All issues should be quickly resolved. It is not about who is wrong or who is right, it is just that you don’t want to get cut off from God’s blessings because of some feelings or ego!

It is a covenant understanding that you must imbibe which will make you go far in your marriage and in the things of God.

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY
I am wise. I put God first place in my life and marriage

PRAYER FOR THE DAY

Lord, teach me to be a wise son/daughter by placing a value on your word.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: (1 Peter 3:8 KJV)

ACTION PLAN FOR THE DAY
Go ahead and end all quarrels

How To Practice Gratitude As A Child

How To Practice Gratitude As A Child

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Gratitude means to declare that you acknowledge something good that you received. It could be a gift or help. How to practice gratitude as a child is what we wish to look at today.

I will exalt You, my God, O King, And [with gratitude and submissive wonder] I will bless Your name forever and ever.

Psalms 145:1 AMP

The psalmist in the above verse is showing this gratitude to God by writing Him a poem to say how grateful he was. That is how to practice gratitude.

Look at this second verse:

Remember [with gratitude] His marvelous deeds which He has done, His miracles and the judgments from His mouth,
1 Chronicles 16:12 AMP

Now the writer here is saying that we should remember with gratitude what God has done for us. You have to just learn how to practice gratitude as a child.

When people show ungratefulness it’s because they forget about what people or God has done for them. They believe that they have never received anything good in their lives. They refuse to say thank you. They refuse to praise God.

When you appreciate people for the good things they do for you, it’s a sign of gratitude. Rather than focus on what you didn’t get, be grateful for the ones you have. Yes, that is how to practice gratitude.

Saying thank you to God every time He blesses you gladdens His heart and He will bless you more.

For the next few days we will look at ways on how to practice gratitude to God and others.

You will also learn how to find things to be grateful for.

May your gratitude always go before God as a sweet smelling aroma in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

Prayer:
Father, I am grateful for the spirit of showing gratitude at all times. Teach me how to practice gratitude. Thank You dear Father in Jesus name. Amen.

Action point:
Look for an empty notebook or jotter to start writing down things you are going to be grateful for as we continue the series.
