“Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.” — Proverbs 5:18 (KJV)
Many people believe that love naturally fades with time.
But healthy marriages tell a different story.
The strongest couples are not those who never face challenges. They are those who intentionally choose each other again and again.
Love is not merely something you feel. It is something you nurture. It grows when it is cared for. And it weakens when it is neglected.
A thriving marriage is not built by accident. It is built through daily choices that keep the relationship alive.
1. Never Stop Pursuing Each Other
One of the biggest mistakes couples make is stopping the very things that brought them together. Before marriage, there were conversations, dates, thoughtful gestures, and words of affection. After marriage, those things should not disappear. Keep pursuing your spouse. Love grows where effort continues.
2. Appreciation Keeps Love Fresh
Familiarity can sometimes lead to taking each other for granted. Instead of focusing on what your spouse lacks, focus on what they bring into your life. Notice their efforts. Celebrate their strengths. Express gratitude often. Appreciation keeps the heart connected.
3. Keep Growing Together
People change over time. Dreams evolve. Responsibilities increase. Life takes unexpected turns. Healthy couples don’t simply stay together. They grow together. Learn together. Pray together. Dream together. Growth creates deeper connection.
4. Protect Your Friendship
Romance is important. But friendship is the foundation that helps love endure. Be interested in each other’s thoughts. Laugh together. Share experiences. Enjoy each other’s company. Many strong marriages are built upon strong friendships.
5. Communicate Beyond Responsibilities
Don’t let every conversation become about bills, children, work, or schedules. Talk about your hopes, your fears, your dreams, your spiritual journey, and your heart. Emotional intimacy strengthens romantic intimacy.
6. Make Time for Each Other
Love struggles when it constantly receives leftovers. Busy schedules can quietly create distance. Protect time together. Even small moments of intentional connection matter. Time is one of the clearest expressions of value.
7. Continue Learning Your Spouse
People are constantly growing. Don’t assume you already know everything about your spouse. Stay curious. Ask questions. Listen carefully. Keep discovering who they are becoming.
8. Forgive Quickly
No marriage survives without forgiveness. Holding onto offenses creates emotional walls. Extend grace. Seek understanding. Choose reconciliation. Forgiveness keeps love moving forward.
9. Keep Christ at the Center
A marriage sustained only by feelings will struggle when emotions fluctuate. A marriage centered on Christ has a stronger foundation. Pray together. Study God’s Word together. Pursue Him together. The closer you both move toward God, the closer you move toward each other.
10. Choose Love Every Day
Love is not sustained by one grand moment. It is sustained by thousands of daily decisions. Choose kindness. Choose patience. Choose respect. Choose faithfulness. Choose love. Again and again.
Proverbs 5:18 encourages husbands and wives to continue rejoicing in one another. God’s design for marriage is not merely endurance but enjoyment. A healthy marriage is one where love continues to grow through intentional care, gratitude, and commitment.
If you want to keep falling in love with the same person, don’t leave your relationship on autopilot. Be intentional. Stay grateful. Protect your friendship. Keep pursuing one another. And keep Christ at the center.
Lasting love is not found. It is built.
And every day gives you another opportunity to fall in love all over again.
