Maximizing Personal Retreats – Apostle Joshua Selman
Whatever God tells you, He can do it. Don’t mind what you see when He’s speaking to you, just take your eyes away and with childlike foolishness, say Lord, I believe
A retreat is part and parcel of the spiritual growth process of a believer.
A retreat is a time when you end and and begin seasons of your life with God, this should not be done in the flesh.
The most spiritual aspect of your lives is when seasons are ending and when seasons are beginning, because this is when satan gets at people.
It is a time when you are exclusively alone with God.
There are certain things that God will not tell you in public, He tells you only when you are alone with Him.
End of year retreat is very important
A retreat should be at least 2 days, one day alone should be dedicated to thanksgiving. Take out time to have personal retreat.
What are the activities that should happen in a retreat?
Thanksgiving – when you thank God, mention things one by one. Your end of year retreat is barren of God’s power without thanksgiving. God never gets tired of people thanking Him.
Don’t be careless with your thanksgiving, forget not His benefits. When you thank Him, mention things one by one. Take out quality time to thank Him.
Review your progress for the current year. Seriously, sincere and unashamedly review the year.
Break your review into 6 different units:
Your spiritual life (passion for God, illumination of the word you have accessed, character) –
What did you know/understand now that you didn’t understand in the previous year. In retreats you must be honest, unashamed and very sincere before God.
Mental development and capacity (did I cooperate with the word of God to develop my mind, did I acquire useful info that will set me on the cutting edge of relevance).
Be able to communicate the life of Christ to your environments.
To be continued.

Oil For Today – Day 145
Father I thank you for the gift of your Son. Thank you because I have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Thank you because I have outstanding success. This day, the lines are falling unto me in pleasant places. I have a goodly heritage. Everything I touch is blessed. Everywhere I go, I receive favor. I have favor with God and man. The help of God is available for me. God is coming through for me. In my relationship/marriage, I will not be stranded. In my business/career, I will not be confused. So shall it be, in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
It is amazing that there are many unrealistic, funny, and illogical reasons why people often get married. A lot of people don’t have the slightest idea of what marriage entails. People get married when they are not fully prepared for it.
These ten reasons will help differentiate the right reasons and wrong reasons for getting married. The list is not exhaustive, but will at least help you to some extent.
1. Getting married because of pity
This is a wrong reason to want to get married to someone. Marriage is a covenant journey that requires mutual agreement, commitment, and willingness of both parties involved. Marriage should never be out of pity. You don’t marry because you want to help or solve someone’s problems. It has never worked and will never work.
2. Getting married because you feel you don’t have any other option.
Some ladies feel helpless and feel they don’t have any other option than to marry a particular person. Nothing can be far from the truth than this. Yes, you have many other options. Allow God to lead you, He won’t lead you wrong. Putting yourself in a tight corner and getting married blindly when all the dangers are explicit enough is not the way to go.
Did you miss out on yesterday’s devotional, we’ve got you covered. Kindly go HERE. For KHC video Devotionals, kindly go HERE
3. Getting married because you don’t want to break someone’s heart.
It is better there is a broken heart that can be healed than for there to be a broken, unfulfilled life and an unaccomplished destiny. A broken heart is way still better than a broken life. May your life not be broken in Jesus name.
4. Getting married because God said so.
You need to hear God as well. God is the ultimate authority, but you have to also be in agreement with God’s decision. You have to love the person with your whole heart in addition to God leading you and telling you the right person to marry.
You find some people say they are marrying a certain person they really detest, because God said so. God will never lead you wrong. God is not an author of confusion. He will not lead you to someone that you loathe and hate.
May God grant you more understanding.
To be continued tomorrow…
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY I will marry rightly. I will not marry for the wrong reasons.
PRAYER FOR THE DAY Lord, lead me to the right person for me.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Isaiah 30:21 [KJV] And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
Just because you have a headache is not enough reason you should wish your head were cut off. We all know that the benefits of having a head sitting on your neck far outweigh having a headache.
2. Take time out when you notice a burnout
A burnout could mean that you are driving yourself hard too much and need to slow down a bit. Taking time to relax could be as often as daily and as simple as laying down on your bed undisturbed with your favorite music, doing something you love or simply, having thanksgiving. You will surely feel refreshed, especially in your marriage.
3. Enjoy your own spouse and children
Learn to enjoy yourself with your family and you will see the feeling of being overwhelmed will go. Learn to laugh and play, and your joy will return. You will find your strength renewed and find new reasons to love again.
Have you registered for KHC Couples’ camp meeting yet? It is going to be awesome! Go HERE if you have not done so.
4. Thanksgiving
It is high time we know that thanksgiving brings God’s presence. We make warfare with our thanks. Thanksgiving opens doors to the heavenlies.
Depressive feelings are often entering point or invitation to demonic operations that are responsible for draining our strength.
The Bible actually put it like this, ‘The joy of the Lord is our strength’.
I hope this has been helpful.
God bless your marriage!

What is God’s stand on judging others? There have been times when you have been so quick to judge someone without thinking before you do so. Within seconds you form an opinion of them. But Jesus warns against the dangers of doing so.
“Don’t judge other people, and you will not be judged. Don’t accuse others of being guilty, and you will not be accused of being guilty. Forgive other people, and you will be forgiven.
Luke 6:37 ICB.
You see one of your classmates with a dirty uniform and quickly you call him or her “dirty”. Well, you might not say it to their face, but in your heart you say it and it shows on your face too. You look disgusted and act snobbishly towards the person. You don’t know what happened to the person. He could have slipped and fallen down hence the dirty uniform. Or he could have been attacked by a group of bullies who roughened him up.
Or you have a classmate who fails terribly at school in exams and tests. Calling her dumb and “empty head” is judging her based on her academic prowess. You don’t know what’s happening at home with her parents. Probably she doesn’t have time to study at home because she helps her mother at their little shop. Unlike you whose parents are not selling anything!
The bottom line is this – don’t jump to conclusions about people because you don’t know what happened to them. That’s why Jesus warns that you shouldn’t judge people.
May the Holy Spirit give you a heart that loves instead of judging. Amen
PRAYER: Lord, help me not to judge others in Jesus’ name, amen.
ACTION PLAN: Watch your words and thoughts the next time you are quick to judge others.

O LORD, that thou would bless me indeed today and in these remaining days of 2021 in Jesus’ Name.

As the year 2021 ends, I will not experience lack, harm or shame in the name of Jesus.
In my relationship/marriage, the LORD crowns this year with His goodness in the name of Jesus.
Every spirit seeking to bring me shame and disgrace today and in December, I bind you in the name of Jesus.
Today I receive the anointing that will distinguish me from my contemporaries in the name of Jesus.
I receive great grace to make today count in my life in the name of Jesus.

This last day of the month, I receive my last minute miracle. I receive my arrears for all my labor this year. The blessing of the Lord is resting upon me and making the difference in my finances. The Lord is blessing me beyond measure. I am ending this month happy. I receive tremendous increase upon the works of my hands. I will end this month well. God is crowning my month with His goodness. Beware of a handsome face sitting upon an ugly heart. The ugliness would eventually extend to the face in no time.
Beware of the handsome man that wants you to compromise your faith in order to satisfy his rush of adrenaline.
Beware of the one that can combine an ugly heart with a handsome face.

Lord, give me a spouse beautiful within and without.
I pray for you, God will honor your prayers! You will not regret your actions in Jesus name. You will not spend the major part of your life agonizing and living in pain over a fine face, but ugly heart. God will guide you, lead you and honor you in Jesus name.
You will not miss it!
For those who are already married, God will make your union a beautiful one within and without.
That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace: [13] That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets: [14] That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.
Psa 144:12-14 (KJV)
So shall it be in Jesus name!
Your home will be blessed. Your children will be blessed. The works of your hands shall be blessed.
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY I will marry rightly.
Sometimes, our husband hammering on our weakness may be what we need to continually draw us to our knees to talk to God.
Our husbands, most of the time, their aim is never to hurt us but maybe their approach is the best for us based on our temperament.
Whichever way, two things are important:
1. Be wise enough like the old cow to eat the hay and spew the straw.
Look beyond his method and pick his wisdom in correcting you.
Grow beyond the hurt and embrace his wisdom.
2. Be teachable, humble, and meek.
The Pharisees couldn’t benefit from Jesus because they were unteachable and too full of pride. Humbly accept his correction and rebuke.

We all had parents whose approach in dealing with us was not totally correct, but once we accept their method, we are better for it.
So, wives, you are not alone. It’s all part of the package. Sometimes, we may not be appreciated or understood. Never mind, our reward is sure. And you know what? God, Himself is our shield and exceeding great reward.
God bless our marriage.
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY I am a faithful wife, humble, meek, and teachable
PRAYER FOR THE DAY Lord, help me to humbly receive my husband as my head and submit to him
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Rom 8:28 For we know that all things work together for good for those that love the Lord.
ACTION PLAN FOR THE DAY Accept your husband as God’s gift to you
What do you do when you are confused? Do you praise God? What do you do when you don’t know what to do? What do you do when things seem to have gone out of place?
See what the psalmist said
Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
Ps 150:2
Just as the psalmist said, we should learn to praise God. We can focus on one of his deeds and thank him for it.
Praise him for his mighty acts. The formation of your child is a mighty act on its own. The intricate intertwining of the bones, intestines, different systems in the body et cetera, should spur you to praise God on their behalf.
Praise him for his acts of power, praise him for his magnificent greatness;
Psalm 150:2
Let’s not only praise God but encourage our children to praise as well. No child is too small to do that.
This morning, do you have a song in your heart? Sing unto Him and praise Him for His goodness.
PRAYER: Help my children to praise you always oh Lord; Amen
ACTION PLAN: Go ahead and sing a song unto God.
DECLARATION: I will praise God. My children will praise God. My family will praise God.
Joy Reloaded was taught by Rev. Dunamis Okunowo on the 28th of November 2021 at Shouts of Grace Center, Joke Plaza, Beside Trans Amusement Park, Bodija-UI Road, Ibadan.
In his teaching, Rev. Dunamis made mention of the following important points:
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Romans 14:17 (KJV)
That scripture means that:
The Kingdom of God is righteousness.
The Kingdom of God is peace.
The Kingdom of God is joy.
Therefore when you step into joy you step into the Kingdom, because the Kingdom of God is joy. Joy reloaded is for you.
You can’t get filled with the Holy Ghost by watching movies up and down. Joy in the Holy Ghost is not watching comedy. Joy in the Holy Ghost is that joy birthed by the Spirit of God.
And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all [these] things are done in parables:
Mark 4:11 (KJV)
One of the emblems of the Kingdom is Joy (Romans 14:17); therefore when the Scripture talks about “knowing the mystery of the Kingdom,” one of the ways to interpret it is “knowing the mystery of joy.”
Joy is mysterious because it produces, even though you may not know how it does it. Joy reloaded every day should be your stance.
When you respond to situations with joy, you bring the Kingdom of God to that situation.
And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
2 Chronicles 20:22 (KJV)
The feeling of fear is okay, but it is the way you respond that matters. It’s not easy to praise God in the midst of afflictions, but you have to bring yourself to that point.
Do you want God to step into your situation? Then praise! When you are supposed to be sad, dance. When you are wronged, respond with outbursts of praise. When you rejoice, you unleash the ministry of angels in your life.
Nothing steals my joy; that should be your stance. Joy is a decision you have to make; in the morning, joy; in the afternoon, joy; in the night, joy.
You sustain/perpetuate a blessing by your heart of gratitude. Joy reloaded!
Seek to stay in joy.

Begin to thank God for today.
Begin to present every place you’ve been bent over to the LORD so He can straighten you.
I break the affliction of near-success in my life in the name of Jesus.
I annul the operation of the spirit of infirmity in my life in the name of Jesus.
Every contrary wind blowing around me, I command you to cease right now in the name of Jesus.
I cast off the band of intense labour with minimal result in my life in the name of Jesus.
I place the blessing of the LORD upon my parents in the name of Jesus.
The protective detail of heaven guards me in this season in the name of Jesus.
I declare my deliverance from every affliction of the devil in the name of Jesus.
Let’s begin to thank the LORD for answered prayers.
Confession For Today
Oil For Today – Day 143
In the name of Jesus, I am delivered from all forms of afflictions. I will no longer be held bound by the devil. The son of God has set me free, I am free indeed. I walk in the victory that Christ wrought for me. In areas I have been held captive, I declare my freedom. In areas I have been bent over, I declare myself straight. No more infirmity. No more affliction. I am healed totally and completely. The blessing works for me in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
She woke up with a start. Impulsively and almost uncontrollably, she bellowed “the blood of Jesus!” His face scared her a little. She had forgotten she got married a day before!
I want a handsome man! He has to be fine!
I want a TDH – Tall, Dark, and Handsome!
Yes, all these are okay, handsome men are cool.
Besides, who wants to marry a man that makes you scream “the blood of Jesus” when you wake up in the morning as you behold his face?
You want to wake up in the morning, take a look at his face, and be filled with the Holy Ghost afresh, burst out in singing in tongues! Isn’t that more wonderful?
However, handsomeness is not only about the face, but also about the heart!
Did you miss out on yesterday’s devotional, we’ve got you covered. Kindly go HERE. For KHC video Devotionals, kindly go HERE
What is the point of a handsome face sitting upon a wicked heart? And yet, this has been the lot of not a few.
There are handsome men that are wicked. There are handsome men that are cheats. There are handsome men that are evil. There are handsome men that are rapists. There are handsome men that are adulterers.
But there are handsome men that are good men and faithful men. That is what you should pray for, that is what you should trust God for, that is what you should aspire for, and that is what you should settle for.
The face is the pulchritude, the heart is the hidden man. Find out about the hidden man before you fall in love with the face.
His behaviors will not come from his handsome face, they would take source from the heart.
Beware of the heart that despises God. Never fall in love with such hearts. Beware of the heart that mocks God. Beware of the heart that belittles your God. Beware of the heart that disregards your God
To be continued…
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY I will marry rightly. I will marry someone whose handsomeness reaches the heart
PRAYER FOR THE DAY Lord, lead me to the right person for me. Let me not be deceived with handsomeness.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Isaiah 30:21 [KJV] And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
1. Accept your spouse and never attempt to change him/her.
If one has to be happy, one must make up one’s mind, that no matter what, I must keep my joy in place.
Some marriages are very problematic and require extra effort to stay happy.
All in all, every marriage has its own peculiar problem and each one has to do certain things just to stay and remain happy.
2. Be contented with whatever you have per time
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Ti 6:6 KJV
Bible says there is great gain in being content, with being godly. Why? Because with your godliness, your situation will eventually change for the better.
You may start out with your spouse from not enough, not being able to afford the basic necessities of life, just hold on to the Lord. Most of the great men of God you see today had stories of humble beginnings.
Did you miss out on yesterday’s devotional, we’ve got you covered kindly go HERE. For KHC video Devotionals kindly go HERE
Be content with your husband or wife’s temperament. Know that her weaknesses are good for you because the other temperament you admire so much, also has a weakness you will never be able to cope with.
3. Find a reason to laugh every day
No matter what life throws at you, laugh. I know it is easier said than done. Life has to be approached by doing what has to be done no matter whether it is convenient or not.
A good hearty laugh is a healthy medicine.
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
Pro 17:22 KJV
4. Be grateful and thankful that you have a family
One of the things that keep anyone happy is having a grateful attitude.
The truth of the matter is that you will have more things to thank God for than you can ever imagine. Take time out to be thankful for yourself, your spouse, and all the so-called ‘little victories’ you have.
Be grateful for each day. The gift of life, for the air you breadth and all the things we so take for granted.
5. Forgive your spouse easily
Not forgiving is like drinking poison and expecting the other person that offended you to die. This will never happen. The effect of the poison will always be on the one who drank the poison,
Learn to forgive easily and quickly. Not forgive and then hold your spouse in strife and malice and don’t talk to your spouse again.
Marriage is for two great forgivers. When you forgive you are lighter in your spirit and happier because you can have a free flow of the spirit and then you enjoy the joy of salvation.
Wisdom, understanding, and peace can also access your spirit when you are void of unforgiveness.
Do these five things and you will see that you are a more happy person. Not that your situation will change immediately, but you will have peace with yourself.
God bless your marriage.
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY I am a happy person and am full of life
PRAYER FOR THE DAY Lord, help me to embrace those things that make me truly happy.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Pro 17:22 KJV A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
ACTION PLAN FOR THE DAY Do these things and watch your marriage transform
Yes, God has good plans for you. Have you sometimes tried to figure out what your parents have in mind?
Have you also noticed that most of the time, your parents always meet your needs, at least to a large extent?
That’s how much our parents have us in mind, how much more our Father in heaven.
Children, the Lord knew you before you were formed and He has a great plan for your life.
For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.
Jeremiah 29:11 AMP
Long before your parents ever met, the Almighty, the creator of the universe, had you in mind.
Part of having you in mind was to design and map out a path for you.
That is, God has a plan of welfare and peace and not of evil.
With the understanding of the scripture above, we should always teach our children to be confident that the Lord is always with them and has a great plan for their lives.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to believe and walk in your plans for my life. Amen
ACTION POINT: Study the word more to discover His plans for you.
DECLARATION: My children have confidence in God because He has a great plan of welfare and peace for them.
That word means “romantic.” Spirituality should never in any way disturb being a romantic lover, single or married.
The synonyms of “romantic” include loving, amorous, passionate, tender, affectionate, lovey-dovey. Speaking in tongues should not disturb speaking sweet things to your lover.
One is to God, the other is to your lover. After you have done the one for God, do the one for your lover as well.
Let your relationship or marriage be characterized with an expression of love. Be passionate towards him or her.
Before wedding, “passionate’ does not include kissing, smooching, and sex. It includes calling regularly, doting on each other, praying for one another, sending loving (not vulgar or perverse) texts to each other (not sexting), buying each other flowers, chocolates, special gifts, and doing memorable things together.
Being romantic is not being full of lust.
In the Old Testament, honeymoons last as long as one year!
Deu 24:5 (KJV) When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.
God wants you to enjoy each other!
Did you miss out on yesterday’s devotional, we’ve got you covered. Kindly go HERE. For KHC video Devotionals, kindly go HERE
In the New Testament, God wants you to have honeymoon for life! Enjoy every day of your married life! Sadly enough, by first week of most marriages, it is only the moon they can find, no honey! That will not be your portion in Jesus name!
The Bible clearly advocates that married couples enjoy themselves sexually and otherwise.
Pro 5:18-19 (KJV) Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. [19] Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
There is nothing wrong about fantasizing about your spouse! It is godly. Take a look at the Message Translation:
Pro 5:18-19 (MSG) Bless your fresh-flowing fountain! Enjoy the wife you married as a young man! [19] Lovely as an angel, beautiful as a rose— don’t ever quit taking delight in her body. Never take her love for granted!
There are certain rules that govern the affairs of any successful marriage. These rules or laws can be applied by any person. That is why someone who is not a Christian can have a good marriage if she/he applies these rules. That is the secret of some of our old parents who despite all, kept their marriage.
Wisdom such as
* When angry don’t talk.
* Calm down and don’t overreact
* When one person is angry the other person should try and keep calm
* A soft response always saves the day.
* Good food is the way to a man’s heart
All these are natural wisdom but have their root in biblical truths.
Let’s check out two of these biblical facts and truth.
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:16 [KJV]
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:1
It is actually in the marriage that you can practice walking in the spirit the most. That’s why it is said that marriage is for the spiritual and the matured.
Did you miss out on yesterday’s devotional, we’ve got you covered kindly go HERE. For KHC video Devotionals kindly go HERE
When we say you should be spiritual, it is for your good and for the good of your marriage.
Man has no original thoughts. Every thought is either from the devil or from God. When you are spiritually minded, you mind the things that pertain to God.
If you are carnally minded, you mind the things that pertain to the flesh. So you walk in the flesh when you give mind to the thoughts of the flesh.
For example, your flesh wants to curse, fume, and fight back when you are abused and pushed to the wall. Your flesh wants to fight to finish and have to last word.
Whereas, when you are spiritually minded and led by the spirit of God and yield to the dictates of the spirit, you want to do things that are contrary to what your flesh wants you to do.
It is actually wise to be controlled and allow yourself to be influenced by the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit dictates to us how to live and we yield to Him, we experience peace and joy. He makes all things work together for our good.
When the Holy Spirit leads us to pray instead of talking back in anger, when he tells us to smile back at our spouses’ rude response, when we find the strength to labor out of love and not out of annoyance etc then God can work on our behalf to give us a miracle in our home and marriages
May God give us the strength to always yield and listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit in our marriages.
God bless our marriage!
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY I walk in the spirit and so I do not walk according to the dictates of my flesh
PRAYERS FOR THE DAY Lord, help me to continually follow after your voice in Jesus name
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
