The Kind of Husbands You Should Avoid – Part 2

The Kind of Husbands You Should Avoid – Part 2

Reading Time: 2 minutes

SINGLES –

Continued from yesterday…

This morning, let’s go shopping!

There are generally two major types of husbands:

a) Wicked Husbands

b) Godly Husbands

Let’s check out the varieties of wicked husbands we have.

1. A hard man

He is arrogant. He is not easy to live with; he is unfriendly, proud, and does not understand the principle of flexibility in a relationship.

2. The Mini/Fake Husband

He loves bedmatics, he performs well on the bed and the dining room but he’s a lazy man. He lacks creativity and initiative. He is a poor provider.

3. Bachelor Husband

He is a single married man; he neglects his wife for friends, business, or hobbies. He respects others above his wife, he has a separate room in the house and sleeps separately too.

4. An Acidic Husband

He is hot-tempered, always flaring up over trivial issues. He wants things done exactly in his way. He is no fun to be with, he is always very serious. The home is like a military barracks. He slaps, barks and shouts.

To be continued…

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY
I am led by his Spirit to choose rightly the man I will marry.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
In the name of Jesus, I receive Grace for my fiance to mature in Christ and be all he can be for the glory of God. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Rom 12:2 Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

ACTION PLAN FOR THE DAY
Make sure you are comfortable with the character and personality of the person you are going out with. Prayerfully ask the Lord what to do next.

The Kind of Husbands You Should Avoid

The Kind of Husbands You Should Avoid

Reading Time: 2 minutes

SINGLES –

Our devotional today is taking an interesting dimension because I desire to paint a vivid picture in the heart of young unmarried people. Like never before, I want you to understand that whatever decisions you make in life, especially in the area of your choice of life partner is what you will live with all the rest of your life.

I often tell people, when you invite me to your wedding, I would come, eat, have a nice time but I will return to my own house and you are left with your choice.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. – Rom 12:2

Let’s look at making a choice or decision like going to a supermarket to shop. Even though the issues about marital decisions require more wisdom and God’s help because unlike the supermarket where you can return goods purchased, in marriage, once you say ‘I do’, you cannot return him/her. It is ’till death do us part’.

In a supermarket, there are wide varieties to choose from. There are fakes, cheap, low quality, second hand, expired, and damaged products, depending on which supermarket you visit.

You also have products that are not bad but are not just good for you personally. They may just not suit your person, your taste, or your physiological makeup. They may also be too expensive for you or you do not have a budget for them now.

Everything still points to the fact that you are in charge and you make the decisions. You may be influenced, but it’s your choice that matters at the end of the day.

To be continued…

How To Forge Ahead In Marriage – Part 2

How To Forge Ahead In Marriage – Part 2

Reading Time: 2 minutes

COUPLES –

Continued from yesterday…

The blockage could be anything from malice, anger, unforgiving spirit, selfishness, hurt, fear, lack of trust, tiredness, hatred, jealousy, envy, and a lot more.

Rather than for you to keep mopping the flood in your marriage, you can stop the flood, remove the blockage and repair the sink!

Repair your blocked communication line and you will be amazed at how much you will eliminate sleepless nights in your marriage.

How can you repair your communication sink?

1. It is important you discover his or her love language. It helps communication better and you can be sure you are effective in your communication.

2. Ladies, do not close up your spirit on your husband! It will slow things down generally in marriage because the power of agreement is the greatest weapon you have.

3. Men, do not stop wooing your wives. Let the fun continue.

4. When communication sink is blocked, it encourages adulterous relationships as the legitimate need of communication can be sought to be met in illegitimate ways.

5. Stay in touch with God in fellowship as this helps a lot to put things in perspective and makes the wisdom of God available through the Holy Spirit to manage the home well.

I pray for you today that God will give you the strength to end that strife, that bitterness and let go of that unforgiving spirit and join forces together to advance your marriage and lives in Jesus name!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY
I know how to communicate with my spouse. My spirit is not closed towards my spouse. I am a good listener. I am sensitive to my spouse.

PRAYERS FOR THE DAY
I pray, Lord, that you teach me by your Spirit to know how to communicate to my spouse with the right words and at the right time in Jesus Name

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. Proverbs 8:8 (KJV)

ACTION PLAN FOR THE DAY
Have a meaningful discussion with your spouse today

How To Forge Ahead In Marriage

How To Forge Ahead In Marriage

Reading Time: 2 minutes

COUPLES –

Several years ago, the weather was really hot. The power was out. One particular night, power was restored and I woke my hubby to put on the air conditioner. I usually enjoy him doing stuff like that for me. He woke up and as he was getting out of bed, he discovered that the whole rug was flooded with water.

What happened was that the sink in the bathroom was blocked, someone (probably one of the boys) left the tap on and when power was restored, the brother staying with us switched on the pumping machine and before we knew it, our room was simply flooded!

This was a little past 12.00 am and we had no choice but to remove the rug and start mopping. You can bet it was not funny at all. Thank God for a good, hardworking hubby like mine who did the job. (I did a little too).

My point this morning is that if your sink is blocked, be ready for some sleepless nights, unnecessary mopping, and the like.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. – Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)

In marriage, this same principle applies to your communication sink. Once it is blocked, you require extra work. Repair and remove every blockage affecting your communication. It only causes troubles uncalled for.

What could cause blockages in your communication sink and how can you handle it?

That is what I will discuss tomorrow.

Is Love Really Blind?

Is Love Really Blind?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

I have been married for over 20 years and I can categorically tell you, love is not blind at all.

Love is a serious business, that you engage in with all your five senses intact and even the sixth one.

Sometimes ago, I was revisiting the marriage vows taken from a wedding I attended. I thought to myself, most people taking these vows don’t understand half of what they are saying. Then I felt like the wedding day sermon should be spent on explaining a little about the vows.

Many couples spend most of their time together praying. Is it that prayers or praying together is not good? Absolutely, it is 100% good.

Many other couples spend most of their time talking. Is it that talking is not good, (depending on what they are talking about). Absolutely, good.

Marriage is both spiritual and physical, so we have to take care of the spiritual aspect as well as the physical aspect. Talking to God will handle the spiritual aspect while talking together about issues will handle the physical aspect.

We cannot enjoy the marriage and maximize our full marital potential by engaging in one at the expense of another. We have to pray as though our marriage depended on our prayers and we also have to talk as though our marriage depended on it.

When I mean talk, I mean talk to yourselves, not about something or someone. All most couples do is talk about events, news, something or someone, they hardly talk about themselves. They simply gossip and that is all they do.

Most of your time together must be spent on talking about yourselves, leave the remaining to talk about other events or issues.

Love is no longer blind. Some of us had loose ends before marriage that has left us as prey to the enemy. We should not be afraid to talk and trash out issues after all, we get to know ourselves by asking and answering questions.

There has to be a balance between praying and talking. No matter how long you have been married, we should go back to asking ourselves pertinent questions, and write our discussions down. At least God wrote down His thoughts.

These serves as our projections, our values, our commitment. We get to know and understand each other’s expectations.

One of the major causes of problems in marriage is unmet expectations. We have expectations our spouse didn’t even know anything about. They are not aware of those expectations not to talk of meeting them.

Talk, ask questions.
What are your expectations in marriage?
What do you want from me?
Were you in cult when you were in school?
What is your vision in life?
What do we do to avoid divorce?
What do we do to have a blissful marriage?
What can I do that you will never forgive me?
And so many questions.

Keep asking questions and talking all through your marriage. Your words together coupled with your prayers are knitting your hearts together until the Twain became one flesh, and nothing will be able to put you asunder.

Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. – Mat 19:6 (KJV)

May God grant us more understanding in Jesus name.
May God bless your marriage.

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY
My eyes of understanding are open.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Lord, help me in every you can in the name of Jesus
