Hello precious one, today I will be talking to you about God as our shepherd. Have you ever heard the word Shepherd?
It’s a name given to someone. So who is a shepherd and what does he/she do?
A shepherd is a person who tends sheep, his or her responsibility is to watch, keep, feed, and protect a sheep.
In the bible, we see on several occasions that it refers to God as a Shepherd and the bible also calls us God’s sheep.
Just like an earthly Shepherd, there are several responsibilities promised to us by God. Our father is “The good shepherd” and his sheep are always watched by him.
Let me show you a few places where the bible speaks about God as our shepherd and us as his sheep.
Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. –Psalms 100:3 (NIV)
Don’t you just love the word of God? The bible calls us God’s people, as in his very own, and then he says we are the sheep of his pasture.
Another verse is Psalm 23:1
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. –Psalms 23:1 (NIV)
This verse makes it a personal confession, God is ”my Shepherd”, as a result of this, I am not in lack of anything, he is responsible for my daily needs!
The last verse we will be looking at is found in Isaiah 40:11
He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. –Isaiah 40:11 (NIV)
This verse declares that God carries us as his children, not only are we carried; he places us close to his heart, such that for anything to happen to us, that means God too will be affected.
Thank God we have a Good Shepherd who cares for us! Amen.
PRAYER: Father help me to know you as my Shepherd.
ACTION POINT: Make sure you take out time to pray this morning
DECLARATION: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yes, God has good plans for you. Have you sometimes tried to figure out what your parents have in mind?
Have you also noticed that most of the time, your parents always meet your needs, at least to a large extent?
That’s how much our parents have us in mind, how much more our Father in heaven.
Children, the Lord knew you before you were formed and He has a great plan for your life.
For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.
Jeremiah 29:11 AMP
Long before your parents ever met, the Almighty, the creator of the universe, had you in mind.
Part of having you in mind was to design and map out a path for you.
That is, God has a plan of welfare and peace and not of evil.
With the understanding of the scripture above, we should always teach our children to be confident that the Lord is always with them and has a great plan for their lives.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to believe and walk in your plans for my life. Amen
ACTION POINT: Study the word more to discover His plans for you.
DECLARATION: My children have confidence in God because He has a great plan of welfare and peace for them.
How do you even recognize a good man? It’s a million dollar question!
The Holy Writ even asks the question;
but a faithful man who can find?
Pro 20:6b (KJV)
The scripture seems to portend the idea that it’s difficult to find a good man.
This morning, we will attempt to identify a good man through just one quality. This quality is something you should not trade anything for.
Let’s take a look at another verse.
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
1Pe 3:7 (KJV)
This guy who is interested in you and you are considering for marriage, Can you say he honors you?
‘Oh well, the way he is now, he is not perfect, but I know he will honor me eventually.”
Hey! If he doesn’t honor you now, chances are that same treatment will continue or even get worse. Marriage hardly changes anybody.
His behavior and attitudes now are trailers of the actual movie waiting for you and that movie is long, with several seasons in it! The only way to ensure it’s not a horror filled movie is to be led by God and to open your eyes very well.
How do you know if a man honors you?
It means to have high respect or great esteem for someone.
If he is sleeping with you through coercion or any form of manipulation, there is no honour there.
If he tells you that you are just one of his numerous girlfriends, there is no honour there.
If he lifts his hand against you, over and over again, only to apologise later, there is no honour there.
Does he delight in you in a genuine way and not because he is going to get some sexual gratification?
Another translation says:
Husbands, in a similar way, live with your wives with understanding.
Is he understanding? Does he have you in mind? Does he allow you to talk or he shuts you down till your default mode is mute?
Lastly, another translation says:
If you are a husband, you should be thoughtful of your wife.
Is he thoughtful? Is he sensitive to your needs or he feels you are too demanding?
These are pertinent questions to consider carefully.
I pray that God will guide you indeed as you make this all important decision.
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY The Lord is leading me to a good man
PRAYER FOR THE DAY Lord, open my eyes
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY 1 Pet 3:7 (NLT)In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.
ACTION PLAN FOR THE DAY Look out for the word ‘honor’ in your relationship
Everyone has friends, but you must choose your friends wisely. This is because they can be a great asset or a great source of regret. Yeah, your friends can either make you or mar you. Their influence is very strong. It is not everyone that comes your way that qualify to enter into your friend zone; this is the reason you have to review your friends from time to time.
To review and choose your friends, ask questions like:
Who are your friends? Are they from Christian homes and do they attend to the things of God with honour? Do they tell lies? Do they say vulgar jokes? Do they encourage you to do good or bad?
Look at the questions and truthfully answer them. This helps you to know who to continue to have as a friend, and who to cut off from your side. The questions will help you to choose your friends.
Great people do not become friends with just anyone; they are careful with the people they call friends. This does not mean you should not be good to everyone or that you should not greet some people. It just means that it is not everyone that they share their life with. It is not everyone that they take counsel from. Friends are people you communicate well with, and therefore you have to choose your friends wisely.
It is my prayer that God will keep you, and that He will bless you with good friends. Amen.
Prayer: Lord make me a better friend and bless me with good friends.
Action point: Make a list of all your friends and start to examine that friendship list critically. Choose your friends. Then deliberately distance yourself from people you do not want to have as f
