Spread the love
Reading Time: 2 minutes

You thought the conversation was going somewhere. Then the replies became shorter, the plans became vague, and eventually there was silence.

It hurts. Especially when you had already imagined introducing them to your friends. But an unanswered message is not a reliable measure of your value.

Trust God without inventing an explanation

Psalm 84 celebrates the blessing of being near God. Verse 11 describes him as a sun and shield, giving grace and glory and withholding no good thing from those who walk uprightly.

The psalm is not a dating formula. It does not promise that every breakup will be followed by a better relationship, or explain why a particular person left. It points us to the goodness of the God we worship.

Sometimes, looking back, you may recognise that a relationship would have harmed you. At other times, the ending may remain confusing. You do not have to label every disappointment “God’s protection” before you are allowed to grieve it.

Pay attention to what is clear

You may not know why someone lost interest. But you can notice whether a relationship involves dishonesty, contempt, pressure to compromise your faith or repeated disregard for your boundaries.

Do not use “Maybe God wants me to be patient” to explain away behaviour that needs to be confronted. Patience and discernment belong together. A trusted Christian mentor can help you distinguish ordinary imperfections from a harmful pattern.

And if you were the one who acted badly, honesty matters there too. Faith is not an excuse to call someone else’s boundary a mysterious closed door. You can repent, learn and respect their decision.

You can move forward without closure

Bring your sadness to God. Tell a trusted friend. Resist the urge to keep checking their profile for clues or to send another message simply to prove you mattered.

You mattered before they noticed you. Their choices do not take that away. Christ invites you to trust him with the parts of your future you cannot explain.

There may be no tidy lesson today. That does not mean God is absent. You can take the next wise step without having the whole story.

Reflect

  • What facts do I know, and what am I assuming?
  • Have I confused being wanted with being treated well?

Prayer

Father, meet me in this disappointment. Give me clear judgment and the courage to honour wise boundaries. Help me trust your goodness without pretending I understand everything. In Jesus’ name, amen.

One step today

Write down what actually happened, without guessing anyone’s motives. Discuss one concern with a trusted person who will speak honestly.
