Spread the love
Reading Time: 2 minutes

You know the feeling. A late reply becomes a whole story in your mind. One quiet evening makes you wonder whether they are tired of you. The fear of losing them starts directing your day.

So you check again. Ask again. Give in again. You hope that enough effort will finally remove the uncertainty.

But you cannot build lasting peace by controlling another person’s every move.

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” — Psalm 56:3 (KJV)

David brought his fear to God. He did not have to pretend that fear was absent before he could trust. You can bring your frightened heart too.

Loving without living in fear of losing them

If you are single or dating, do not make yourself sexually available to keep someone interested. Your body is not a payment for reassurance. A relationship that requires disobedience to God cannot give you the security you are seeking. State your convictions clearly and notice how they respond.

If you are married, commitment deserves care, but care does not require constant surveillance. Ask for agreed communication, honesty, and reliability. If trust has been broken, specific accountability may be part of repair. Discuss it openly rather than secretly trying to manage every uncertainty.

Fear can also make you controlling. Threats, accusations, and demands for instant replies can wound someone who has not betrayed you. If this is your pattern, acknowledge it without blaming your partner for every reaction.

At the same time, do not dismiss clear evidence of dishonesty as merely your insecurity. Separate what happened from what you fear might happen. Both deserve an honest response; they are not the same thing.

Today, write two sentences: “What I know is…” and “What I am afraid of is…” Then choose a response that fits the facts and honours God.

You do not have to solve your whole history tonight. Begin by giving God one fearful thought and practising one truthful conversation.

Prayer: Father, steady my heart. Help me honour You, love responsibly, and release the urge to control. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection: Where has fear been making a decision that wisdom should make?
