Spread the love
Reading Time: 2 minutes

You have been “talking” for months. There are daily messages, affectionate comments and plans that sound like dates. But whenever you ask where it is going, the answer gets vague.

Clarity can feel risky. It is also kinder than letting someone build hopes around intentions you will not name.

Integrity in a different setting

Ruth and Boaz’s story involves widowhood, family obligations, land and the role of a family redeemer. It is not modern dating dressed in ancient clothes.

In Ruth 3, Ruth makes a clear request. In chapter 4, Boaz addresses the nearer relative’s claim publicly before elders, then commits to marriage. The outcome is handled openly rather than through hidden arrangements.

We should not copy every cultural detail or call every attractive Christian “my Boaz.” We can learn from kindness, responsible action and honesty.

Say what you mean

If you are interested in pursuing a relationship, say so respectfully. Ask what the other person wants, and accept their answer. Clear intention is not a demand for immediate marriage.

If you are unsure, be honest about uncertainty. Do not offer the emotional closeness of commitment while keeping the other person guessing for your convenience.

And if someone says no, their decision is not a challenge to overcome with more spiritual language. Godly pursuit respects freedom and boundaries.

Let character be visible

Notice how someone treats people who cannot impress or benefit them. Give trusted people room to know the relationship. Secrecy can make it harder to recognise problems.

Accountability does not mean posting everything online. It means refusing to build a relationship that depends on deception or isolation.

Neither Ruth nor Boaz guarantees a particular romantic outcome for you. Their story belongs to God’s larger work through a family that leads toward David and, ultimately, Jesus.

Let the lesson be integrity, not a search for a perfect character in a love story. You can treat another person honestly today, whatever their answer turns out to be.

Reflect

  • Have I allowed ambiguity to protect my convenience?
  • Does this relationship have honest, trustworthy accountability?

Prayer

Lord, help me be clear, kind and responsible. Keep me from using people or pressuring them, and guide my choices in your truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

One step today

If clarity is overdue, arrange an honest conversation about intentions without demanding a particular answer.
