Spread the love
Reading Time: 2 minutes

You removed the photos from your profile. That part took a minute. Explaining the cancelled plans, facing the memories and adjusting to a different future will take longer.

A broken engagement or serious relationship is a real loss. You do not have to minimise it because you never reached the wedding.

God meets you before you feel better

Psalm 34:18 speaks of the Lord’s nearness to the brokenhearted and his care for those crushed in spirit. The psalm also acknowledges that righteous people face many troubles.

God’s nearness is not a demand to recover quickly. You can come to him with the tears, anger and unanswered questions you actually have—not only the polished version you would share in church.

This verse does not promise a replacement relationship or a fixed recovery date. It gives you a reason to seek God in the middle of pain.

Give grief somewhere safe to go

Choose one or two trustworthy people who can listen without feeding rumours or pressuring you to date again. Tell them what is genuinely difficult: evenings, family questions, the belongings you have not sorted.

Online checking can keep reopening the wound. Consider boundaries around their profile and your conversations, especially if contact keeps pulling you back into a harmful pattern.

You do not have to make every decision about shared items immediately. Where there are practical or financial responsibilities, handle them clearly and seek appropriate advice rather than acting from panic.

Your loss is not your whole identity

There may be things to learn or actions to repent of. There may also be wrongs done to you that were not your fault. Honest reflection does not require taking responsibility for someone else’s choices.

Keep small rhythms where possible: meals, rest, work, church and contact with friends. If grief is making daily life difficult, reaching for qualified support is not a failure of faith.

You do not need to prove healing by starting something new. Following Christ today may look like telling the truth, receiving care and choosing one manageable next step.

Reflect

  • What part of the loss have I been afraid to name?
  • Who can support me without rushing or judging me?

Prayer

Jesus, meet me in this grief. Help me receive care, recognise what is true and take the next wise step. Keep my hope anchored in you. Amen.

One step today

Tell a trusted person one specific way they could support you this week.
