Reading Time: 2 minutes

What is the secret of great men? Fifteen-year-old Sola couldn’t believe his ears when the teacher announced the date for the test. Just two days away and he hadn’t studied at all. This was unfair. Why would the teacher do so? There was no way he could study for and pass the test in just two days.

He swung into action and began to read and study his lessons. Something gnawed inside him. A voice kept telling him to pray. Pray?

Situations can be unfair to you sometimes. They could be sudden like it was for Sola or not. It’s what you do immediately that counts a lot.

Cry and host a pity party? Look for others like you and host a mega pity party? Or do you immediately swing into action and start preparing for that test or looking for ways to handle the situation?

Yes, it’s good to swing into action instantly and start resolving that issue. Yet, just like Sola felt that gnawing feeling inside of him to pray, you should also listen to the voice telling you to pray. Praying doesn’t mean you won’t do anything. Neither is it magic.

Making prayer your first action when faced with a sudden or not difficult situation, is a very healthy thing to do as a Christian. It means you are asking for God’s help concerning that situation. God won’t come down to help you do it, rather, He will show you how to go about it effectively. He will help you save time, effort, and resources.

Jer. 33:3 (AMP) ‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.’

Think of it as you wanting to take something from the top of a fridge but your hands can’t reach up to it. What do you do? You either get something to stand on so you can reach up or call someone taller than you to get it for you.

Praying to God is that something you stand on or that person you call. He helps you reach the height so you can take what you want – deal with that situation.

Stay strong in the Lord.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to always call on you in times of trouble rather than worry my little head off in Jesus name. Amen

Action point:
When next you want to cry “unfair” about something, why not pray to God first?

Declaration:
I engage the force of prayer at all times.
