Some time ago, I went to pick up my son from his school. As busy as the road was, I had no issue crossing it since I was alone. On my way back, with my son, I was more careful about crossing the same road. I stood there for a very long time, waiting for the road to be entirely clear before crossing.
I remember I saw others crossing with the speed of light while I stood there, calculating my next move.
People were watching me, wondering why I was finding it difficult to cross. I heard someone say,’ this man cannot live in Lagos State.’
Eventually, when the road was clear, I crossed.
On my way to his school, I crossed the road without thinking twice. On my way back, I had a tough time crossing the road – the same road, the same me…lol.
What happened? I was more conscious the second time because I was carrying something. I was carrying someone. I was carrying my son.
That consciousness altered the way I thought, acted, and even spoke. I didn’t mind the insults rained at me. I didn’t mind the time wasted. I couldn’t afford to miscalculate because it wasn’t just me this time.
How conscious are you of the one you are carrying? It is not enough to say it. You must act it and live in that consciousness. That consciousness won’t allow you to slide your hands into a lady’s blouse. That consciousness won’t allow you to send your nude pictures to him. That consciousness won’t allow you to alter that document. That consciousness won’t allow you to take advantage of the one you are meant to protect.
Perhaps I should remind you of who you’re carrying.
II Corinthians 6:16 [NKJV] And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”
God dwells in you. You carry God inside. Let that consciousness guide you throughout today.
Single or married, we are all believing that God will bless the work of our hands. God is interested in doing this, especially when that work of our hands is in alignment with His purpose for our lives both here and eternally.
The best place we can enjoy God’s blessings is when we are right at the center of His will and purpose for our lives!
The scriptures say here:
Deu 28:12 (KJV) The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
There is a good treasure of God that can be closed or opened. There needs to be cooperation between heaven and earth wherein the land in its season gets rain given from heaven.
The blessing of the work of our hands can be exemplified in the reality of being a victor and not a victim, where you can be the owner of a loan-giving company and not owe several loan sharks who keep calling friends and families with threats.
All of these dynamics can be found in just one verse! This verse needs to be studied, as a panacea to lack and poverty, as a way out of famine!
We all know the chief cause of famine can be a lack of rain, right?
Let’s take a look at another transition.
Deu 28:12 (MSG) GOD will throw open the doors of his sky vaults and pour rain on your land on schedule and bless the work you take in hand. You will lend to many nations but you yourself won’t have to take out a loan.
Hey! He will pour out rain on your land on schedule!
Isn’t that powerful?
You will lend to nations and won’t have to take a loan!
A good prayer here is this:
Lord, throw open the sky vaults and pour rain on my land in Jesus’ name!
John didn’t say a word. He sat still and quiet while his friend cried. Tunji, his best friend at school, just lost his dad and they were in his friend’s room right now. Tunji’s pillows were wet with his tears, the bed covers rough and halfway down on the floor. His cries echoed throughout the room as he laid on the bed. Who could comfort Tunji?
There was nothing John could do other than to sit and wait for his friend to talk when he felt like it. Though deeply saddened to see his friend like this, there was nothing he could do, but to pray that God would comfort Tunji for the loss. And of course, stay by his side.
When a friend is in a state like Tunji is, the only thing to do is pray for them like John is and ensuring that you are by them. Don’t try to talk unless they ask you to or do so themselves. Never expect them to hurry out of their grief or tell them to. They need the time to grieve and mourn their loss as much as they have to. All they need is your silence and presence. They need your support. Be there to comfort them.
That is what is it means to hold the hand of a friend. You let them know that you are available for them. Your care doesnt have to be in words but in action most times.
Only God will comfort them for their loss as the bible tells us.
May the Lord make you a good friend at all times. Amen.
Prayer: Lord, make me a good friend that will be there for my friends when they are in their lowest moments. Help me to hold their hands, in comfort, all through. In Jesus name, amen.
Action plan: When next you see a friend going through a tough time, pray for and support them; comfort them.
