Coalition for Change (C4C) was thanked by the presidency late Monday, June 10 for withdrawing its petition against the election victory of Muhammadu Buhari of February 2019.
It was reported by Legit.ng, through a statement from the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu said the political party were castigated by the presidency for taking the decision earlier in the day through its lawyer at the resumed hearing before the presidential election petition tribunal.
“This is a sign of true patriotism. By accepting defeat with grace, the C4C has chosen to prioritise the stability of our country and the voice of the people. “Victory and defeat are part of elections. For some in the opposition, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is good when they win. Where they lose, INEC is unreliable,” the presidency said. Also adding that the nation is been faced with huge challenges and need all hands on deck to resolve.
“The people of Nigeria have chosen President Buhari to lead them, and all stakeholders should deploy their energy towards supporting his efforts,” the statement added. Legit.ng earlier reported that the presidential election petition tribunal on Monday, June 10, dismissed the petition of the Coalition for Change (C4C) against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 presidential election.
The counsel representing Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lateef Fagbem and Wole Olanipekun informed the court that their clients were yet to be served with a copy of the petition. Olanipekun said at the last adjourned date, the panel had granted an application for substituted service but that up till Monday morning, the petitioners were yet to serve the processes on the first respondent.
