The Zamfara State police command has welcomed the development by the federal government on the suspension of all forms of mining activities in the State.
The state commissioner of police, Mr. Celestine Okoye while speaking at the state capital, said the police would do all in its power to ensure that the order is carried out perfectly, as the insecurity situation in the state has caused him a lot of sleepless nights ever since he was deployed to the crisis-stricken state.
“With effective and efficient commitments and operation, we hope to reclaim every public space that was illegally claimed by the armed bandits and notorious kidnappers in the state,” he stressed.
Mr. Okoye stated that stealing of government property such as the gold and other solid mineral resources was a serious public offence.
However, information gathered from members of the affected communities implied that the foreigners who carry out mining activities in the state are being employed by the highly placed individuals in the state who seem to be “untouchable” because of their positions, which may render the ban ineffective.
