Actress Salma Hayek’s husband who is the CEO of Gucci pledge N40.6 billion François-Henri Pinault, the chairman of Kering, which owns luxury brands including Gucci has pledged $113 million (N40.6 billion) to rebuild the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris which was engulfed by flames on Monday, April 15.
According to a report by Yahoo, he made the pledge hours after President Emmanuel Macron said a national donation scheme towards rebuilding the church will be opened.
He said in a statement:
“My father (Francois Pinault) and myself have decided to release a sum of €100 million (N40.6 billion) from our Artemis funds (the family holding company) to participate in the effort that will be necessary for the complete reconstruction of Notre-Dame,”
Many of its precious relics, including the Crown of Thorns, said to have been worn by Jesus Christ before the crucifixion were also saved.
