Time – Learn How To Manage This Gift Well

Time – Learn How To Manage This Gift Well

Reading Time: 2 minutes

What time is it? What’s the time now? When are we leaving? When should I take my drugs? When should I eat? When is the test starting? When is mummy coming back? When is the party starting?

These are just some questions people ask because they want to know when to do something or go somewhere. And knowing when to do or go somewhere is a deciding factor on how successful what they want to do or go will be.

In the bible, the book of Ecclesiastes speaks about this subject, saying that there is a particular time for everything.
Yes, there is a time for everything in this world. God is the master at this; He knows when is right for any thing that is to be done. He knew when it was right for you to be born. He chose the date, country, and place for you.

Understanding how to manage your time well will help you a lot in life. Knowing when to speak, not speak, act, not act and more will help you get out of some situations.

There’s a time for you to study as there’s when it is okay for you to watch cartoons. There’s also when it is right for you to sleep, and also when it is right to wake up and prepare for school. There’s when to eat and when to fast. Understand all these facts and you will be very good in managing this precious gift.

Above all, God wants you to use your time well, especially for Him.
May God teach you how to manage this gift well. Amen.

Prayer:
Lord, teach me how to use my time well. I don’t want to waste this gift in Jesus’ name, amen.

Action plan:
Pick a jotter and pen and start to plan your day.

How Big Is God? A Kid Asks His Dad

How Big Is God? A Kid Asks His Dad

Reading Time: 2 minutes

How big is God? Let me share this story of a little boy’s interaction with his father. Let’s go!

A little boy once asked his father this question:

‘Daddy, how big is God?’

His father chuckled out loud and said, ‘God is very enormous.’

‘How big, I want to know.’

‘Well, how big is God…’ the father thought about it for a while.

Just then an airplane cruised in the sky, the father got an idea. ‘Come to the window, son.’
The boy scooted over to his father.

‘Look at the sky,’ he pointed to the clouds. ‘What’s that in the sky?’

‘It’s an aeroplane. It doesn’t look any big. It’s tiny.’

‘Sure it is.’ He stood up. ‘Have you ever seen an aeroplane on the ground?’

The boy shook his head.

‘Well, let’s go to the airport.’

At the airport, the boy couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the aeroplanes.

‘They are big! he exclaimed. ‘I never imagined they would be like this.’

‘Son, this is how God can be. From afar, He may look small but when you move closer to Him, He gets this big.’

God gets bigger and bigger the closer you get to Him. He doesn’t create the distance. In fact, He removed the distance when Jesus died on the cross.

You can only get to experience His bigness when you spend more and more time with Him and His Word.

Just like the aeroplane in the sky that looks tiny, God will look tiny to you when there’s no regular fellowship with Him. He looks just like a spot of white in the clouds, making you to squint and cover your eyes before you can look at Him.

But when you are near Him, you don’t have to squint or protect your eyes, rather, your eyes might want to pop out of their sockets as you marvel at how enormous He is. God is really big.

God can only be big in your life based on how much of your time you give to Him.

May God give you the grace for such. Amen.

Prayer:
Yahweh, You are bigger than anything, anyone and everything on this earth. I want to keep marveling at such a spectacle as You. Give me more revelation of how big You are as I walk with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Action plan:
How big you want God to be to you? Answer the question yourself.

How To Handle Anger As Children – Part 5

How To Handle Anger As Children – Part 5

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We have been looking at how to handle anger as a child. Anger has been looked at from different angles and the ways to respond to it.

As a child you will have feelings of anger up to when you become an adult. Even in adulthood you will still get angry with people and situations. Anger is common to all persons. The earlier you start learning how to handle this emotion, the better for you. As you mature into adulthood you would have learnt a lot about handling any anger issues.

To handle anger, you need the help of God. He alone has the power to help you deal with any anger issues. He can guide and lead you towards handling it well.

Read and study the bible for verses that talk on anger and how to handle it. Also read up stories of bible characters who had anger issues and show they handled it, either good or bad. You could read again about the times when God got angry in the bible.

Pray too and a lot if you find yourself with any anger issue. Prayer is like a personal time with God. And during this personal time , you don’t hide nothing from Him. You tell Him everything you feel, especially about your anger. It is in moments like this that you receive the strength to handle anger.

One last thought about anger – anger is not bad, it’s only what it makes you do, think or say that is bad. And anger that is left to stay for long can turn to hate and bitterness. You therefore must learn to handle anger.

May the Lord deliver you from every form of anger, hate and bitterness. Amen.

Prayer:
Lord, I ask for help for every form of anger I have; teach me how to handle it LORD. Let it not lead to hatred or bitterness. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Action point:
Look deep inside your heart, look for any anger that has turned to hatred or bitterness and ask God for forgiveness. After asking  for forgiveness, ask God to help you handle all your anger issues. Read and study your bible too.

Forgive – How To Handle Anger – Part 4

Forgive – How To Handle Anger – Part 4

Reading Time: 2 minutes

‘I choose to forgive you for the bad words you have said to me.’ These were the words Tatiana said to Mercy before she turned away and started walking home.

Earlier that day, Mercy and her gang of bullies had done all they could to get Tatiana to lose her cool and start a fight. From spreading gossip about John and her kissing under the stairs during recess, to purposely pouring water on her. Can she forgive?

Tatiana didn’t lose her temper because she knew what they were trying to do. And she had made a vow to God that she wouldn’t answer back at Mercy. Her vow to Him was more important than anything the bully gang did or said. What mattered most was her vow to and relationship with God. And that was one of the reasons she found strength to forgive.

So instead of speaking or fighting back, choose to render forgiveness. You could say “I forgive you”, to the person’s face or in your heart. Not because you are afraid of them, but because that is what God wants you to do.

Remember the part in our Lord’s Prayer that talks about forgiving those who trespass against us? (“and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.” – Matthew 6:12). That is exactly what how God wants you to live. That is exactly what God desires you do when your friends annoy you – ignore them and forgive.

I pray that God will give you the power to choose to forgive. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer:
Father, help me to choose forgiveness over retaliation. And as I render forgive, may I receive forgiveness too, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Action Plan:
Practice forgiveness all the time. Practice to just let go.

How To Handle Anger – Anger Leads To More Anger

How To Handle Anger – Anger Leads To More Anger

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A wide and pleasant smile plastered over Tade’s face as he collected the bowl of food from the food seller at the school’s canteen. He couldn’t hold back the urge to pick a piece of meat and slide it into his mouth. But anger was lurking somewhere in the corner!

He had hardly taken two bites when someone crashed into him, sending both him and the plate of food to the ground. To make matters worse, his uniform was soiled with oil.

His eyes went from the food on the floor to the culprit standing over him. He heard the whole canteen go up in laughter as he focused on Yinka, his anger rising.

‘Why did you push me?’ he asked Yinka.
Yinka chuckled and shrugged his shoulders. Tade saw this and just like all the other times like this, he knew Yinka would never apologize. This fueled his anger the more.
‘That was my lunch.’
‘So?’ Yinka said, daring Tade to do his worst.

Tade bolted up in a flash and smacked Yinka straight in the face, followed by punches in the stomach and a powerful one to the jaw. Yinka staggered back, tasted the blood in his mouth, and spat out a tooth. Anger now ruled in the boys. Instantly Yinka responded with his own punches and the fight began.

At the end of the day, both boys were sitting in the Principal’s office with oil-stained uniforms, swollen faces, missing teeth, painful torsos, and no lunch.

Getting angry and acting out the anger, just like what happened in the story above, is why you shouldn’t let your anger control you. Tade got angry at what Yinka had done and attacked him, leading Yinka to act out his anger also. In the end, both boys had lost a lot.

When you hit back at someone, you likely will do so more than they hit back at you. And the person will also hit back at you more than you did. The cycle continues like that till it escalates to a point when both of you would have lost so much at the end. That is how anger cycles.

May God grant you the grace to hold back your anger. Amen.

Prayer:
Lord, give me the grace to not be angry and act out my anger. Help me to keep my cool. Amen.

Action point:
Pray that God will help you handle your anger well.

How To Handle Anger – Your Actions Are Important To God

How To Handle Anger – Your Actions Are Important To God

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Your actions are important in dealing with anger. Jesus told the disciples to go into the world and share the Good News with all people.

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to all creature.” Mark 16:15 KJV

This command is carried out by Christians through evangelism. They move from one place to another telling people about Christ. Now, with the internet all over the place, evangelism has moved from physically moving about to just pressing a button to disseminate a message worldwide. What this means is that your actions are not just about you; they are also about Christ.

Imagine someone says something nasty to you and quickly, you reply to them with much the same words or actions they meted out to you. What if the other person isn’t a Christian? Or a baby Christian? How do you think they will think of you?

“Oh, and he is a Christian.”
“He says he is born-again; look at his actions.”
“His parents are pastors.”
“He is a member of the choir.”

These are some of the thoughts that would cross their minds. These thoughts are judging you (your actions) as a Christian, because you are supposed to show Christ in your actions. Yes, people will push you to do or say things you wouldn’t do normally, but you still have to remember that you are a light that points others to Christ. Your actions matter!

May you receive the strength to hold back and let Christ be revealed through you. Amen.

Before you respond in anger again, remember that your actions matter… and that you are representing God on earth. I pray that your actions will always show forth Christ.

Prayer:
Lord, Jesus, make me a continual light guiding people to you. Help me to resist the urge to lash out in anger. Help me to take charge of my actions. In your mighty name, I pray, amen.

Action point:
Pray and meditate on bible verses that show how to tame your tongue.

How To Handle Anger – Is The Person Saying The Truth?

How To Handle Anger – Is The Person Saying The Truth?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Being calm in the face of anger and thinking about the situation is a great strength you can wield as a child. It’s also a sign that you are maturing into a balanced adult. When a person is saying words that you feel are offensive or carrying out actions that seem to offend you, ask if they are saying the truth. Seeking to know if their words are truthful can help you to understand certain things about yourself.

Giving thoughts to the words or actions of others before reacting or even after doing so helps you look inwards at yourself. You pick out the truths and apply them to your life and start making changes. Don’t look at how they said or did it – yes, it could be harsh, but look at the truth in what they are saying. You should be concerned about how to use the truths in their words and actions to better yourself.

Sometimes you could be the cause of why people do the things they do you. Are you a bully? Do you gossip about your friends? Are you a disloyal friend? Asking yourself such deep questions will lead you to the truth.

Even if you are not the cause of it, still remember to keep your cool and maintain your stand in Christ. There’s nothing to gain by retaliating with a quick outburst. Take a chill pill and let the Spirit of God teach you what to do; He is the Spirit of truth.

Finally, you can always pray to God for the grace to hold back your tongue and think before speaking; and to always speak in line with the truth when you speak.

“Lord, help me control my tongue. Help me be careful about what I say.” Psa. 143:3 ICB

Prayer:

Lord, help me learn from what people say or do to me. Show me where I am the problem. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

Action point:
Take your time to listen when next someone angers you with their words or actions. Listen for the truth.

How To Handle Anger – Turn The Other Cheek

How To Handle Anger – Turn The Other Cheek

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The first thing you want to do when someone says something bad or hurtful to you is to quickly reply. Well, that’s just you being human and everyone feels that way too. You are no exception; no natural self wants to turn the other cheek.

Rather than allowing your natural self to take over, why not just take a moment to calm down. Take some breaths if you remember to and slowly leave the place or just keep quiet. Turn the other cheek.

This doesn’t make you a fool or weak in any way. Rather, it shows maturity and that you have the Spirit of God working in you. Yeah, the fruit of the Spirit is working in you. One of such fruits is the fruit of love.

Out of love for God, you would rather not say something bad back to the person and instead, just walk away or keep quiet. If it’s a physical situation, you don’t retaliate, but rather turn the other cheek like Jesus said to do:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you, don’t stand up against an evil person. If someone slaps you on the right cheek, then turn and let him slap the other cheek too.
Matthew 5:38 – 39 ICB

Turning the other cheek doesn’t mean you physically do that. It’s just a figure of speech that means you don’t act upon what the person said or did. You choose to obey God than man.

It can be hard to do, especially if there are others there who are goading to hit or speak back at the person. With practice and prayers to God for help, you will learn how to keep your peace; you will learn how to turn the other cheek.

May the Lord bless you with a spirit of love for Him. Amen

Prayer:

Lord, help me to be calm in situations that could get me angry. Teach me how to quickly let go of my anger. Teach me how to turn the other cheek. In Jesus’ name, amen.

How To Handle Anger As A Child – Part 1

How To Handle Anger As A Child – Part 1

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I’m sure you have felt angry before. The feeling you have inside your heart when someone or something gets under your skin; that’s anger. You feel all the blood pumping inside your heart, ready to release some very harsh words through your mouth and actions. When it’s a person, you want to say bad words to them or harm them back. If it’s a situation you might likely scream out or yell or hit the wall or something.

Everyone feels anger. It’s a human emotion. Even God that isn’t human feels anger. Jesus felt angry when He saw how the people turned the temple into a market place.

But it was almost time for the Jewish Passover Feast. So Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the Temple he found men selling cattle, sheep, and doves. He saw others sitting at tables, exchanging money. Jesus made a whip out of cords. Then he forced all these men, with the sheep and cattle, to leave the Temple. He turned over the tables and scattered the money of the men who were exchanging it. Then he said to those who were selling pigeons, “Take these things out of here! Don’t make my Father’s house a place for buying and selling!”
John 2:13-16 ICB

Anger isn’t necessarily bad on its own. It’s what you do or say when you’re angry that is the major issue with getting angry.

Jesus spoke about anger in the bible. He showed how to not let your anger remain in your heart overnight. If your sibling offends you in the morning and you remain angry at them till the next day, that’s bad. That’s what Jesus was talking about

You will face some situations in life that are beyond your control and get angry because of this. People will do or say stuff that you don’t like to you or someone close to you. That’s just the way life is.

In this series, we will be looking at how you, as a child, can and should handle anger.

I pray that God will give His Holy Spirit to minister to you. in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer:

Lord, help me deal with every spirit of anger in me. Amen.

Action plan:

Have you ever noticed how easily you get angry?

How To Dream Big – Part 6

How To Dream Big – Part 6

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Another sensible thing to do as you go about achieving your dream is to read up about the people who have done what you want to do.

These people may be famous or not but they have achieved what you want to. When you read and/or study about their lives, what they went through, where they lived, how they did what they did and the rest, you are learning some great lessons from their lives. You see their mistakes, fears, habits, and more. These are great tools for you to use for your own journey of fulfilling your dream.

Reading about them helps you know how to avoid some mistakes they made. That’s the best way to learn and grow. Using their tips and tricks will help to speed up the learning process for you and you will also achieve the same results they did, and your dream will be made manifest.

Look at the story of the prophets Elijah and Elisha in the bible.  Elijah was a powerful prophet in the bible. He declared that there wouldn’t be any rain and there wasn’t (1Kings 17:1-2). It was only after he said there would be rain that it rained (1Kings 18:41-46). He was also the one that called down fire from heaven to burn the wet animal sacrifice when he challenged the fake prophets of fake gods to a contest (1 Kings 18:1-40).

Elisha saw all the mighty things Elijah did and asked for a double portion of his anointing and he received it (and it helped him fulfill his own dream). Why? Because he understood the power that Elijah had. Just like when you read up on these people because you know how much they have achieved in their field. You need this kind of power.

May God give you the right people to follow. Amen.

Prayer:

Lord, lead me to men and women whose lives are a mirror of your grace and goodness. May I learn what I need to learn from them to fulfill my dream. Amen.

Action plan:

Read books about great men and women in the field you are pursuing. You can also read up on people who have encountered and overcome great physical, medical, spiritual, and financial challenges. Ordinary people who have overcome so much. Then apply it to your dream.

Dreaming Big 5 – Start To Act Out Your Dreams

Dreaming Big 5 – Start To Act Out Your Dreams

Reading Time: 2 minutes

So you have discovered your passion for something and are acquiring some form of education in that area and have also not quit, what is next on the line? Well, the next thing to do is to start acting out your dreams. Act!

You have learnt some art principles in art school – start to use them in your works. Let them show in your paintings or sculptures or whatever form of art you are creating.

You love to cook? Start using the skills you have learnt at culinary school at home. Cook something at home. Act out your dream.

Do not wait till you graduate or finish your training before you start to practice. Practicing is like having tests and exams at school. It’s to test how much you have learnt or are learning.

When David faced Goliath on the battlefield, it wasn’t his first time on the battlefield. He was already battling lions and bears in the forest while shepherding flocks daily. He already had practiced before the big day. You see? Learn to act.

Goliath was just another bear or lion in the eyes of David. And he believed that if God could successfully allow him to kill lions and bears, who was Goliath that God wouldn’t allow him to defeat, especially since the giant was mocking and teasing the Israelites. (Read 1 Sam. 17:1-51)

Practicing is for measuring how much you have learnt and not to mock or ridicule you.
Through practice, you will discover so much about yourself and what you are learning. I yet say again, “Act out your dream.”

One final thought about practicing – it prepares you for battle.

I pray that the Lord will equip you daily as you practice. Amen.

Prayer:
Father, help me to continue to practice the skills I have learnt. Help me to act. Help me to discover my strengths and weaknesses in Jesus’ name, amen.

Action plan:
Do all your practices. Do all your school assignments, take all tests and exams.

Dreaming Big Part 4 – Don’t Quit When It’s Hard

Dreaming Big Part 4 – Don’t Quit When It’s Hard

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In the process of achieving your dreams, some things will happen. Bad things for sure. Things that will push you to want to leave and give up on achieving your dreams. But God doesn’t want you to give up on your dreams. He doesn’t want you to quit.

At a point during the learning period, the lessons will be hard, and you will want to give up, but don’t. That is the time you should keep moving and follow through with the instructions. You can rest for a while, but never give up. Sometimes, at the point of giving up is where your best lessons are. Don’t quit.

Look at the story of Jacob and his uncle, Laban, in the bible. Laban had cheated Jacob. Instead of giving Jacob, Rachel as his wife, Laban gave him Leah. After serving for seven years, he was offered the wrong bride. What did Jacob do? He didn’t complain, neither did he give up. He didn’t quit. He served for another seven years just so that he could have the woman he loved, Rachel.

People will do and/or say things that could discourage you, but don’t look at them or what they are saying or doing. Look at Jesus, the one who completes you. He gives you the strength to do all things. He strengthens you not to quit.

“I am worn out, O Lord; have pity on me! Give me strength; I am completely exhausted.” Psalms 6:2 GNB.

“I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me.” Phil. 4:13 GNB.

Prayer:

Lord, give me the strength to continue on my journey towards fulfilling my destiny. Give me the strength not to quit. Help me to focus on you and not on anything or anyone. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray, Amen.

Action point:

Find bible verses like the ones above and use them anytime you encounter a discouraging person, situation, or remark. That is your shield.

Dreaming Big – Part 3 – It’s Time To Learn

Dreaming Big – Part 3 – It’s Time To Learn

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Okay, you know what you want to become. You have discovered your passion for taking care of animals or painting or something else. It’s time to move on. It’s time to learn.

Start taking the steps that will move you closer to achieving your dreams. This is about getting education. It could be formal or informal.

If your dream is to be a painter, you need to take classes in art. These classes will expose you to the world of art – artists, art principles, art styles, etc. Knowing these things will help you become a better artist. You need to learn. Applying all you have learnt coupled with your talent, will further make you create great artworks and your fame spread far and wide over the world.

Just like Samuel in the bible, he had to learn under the prophet Eli before he could become a prophet too. When Samuel first heard the voice of God, he thought it was Eli calling him. It was only after going to Eli that he was told what to do and who was calling Him

It’s going to take time for you to become excellent at what you want to become. Learning doesn’t take place in a day, but over a particular period of time.

Learning is important as you dream big. You must learn.

May the Lord expose you to the best learning experiences in your quest towards greatness, Amen.

Prayer:

Lord, help me as I learn to become what I desire to be. Give me the best teachers, schools, and experiences. In Jesus’ name, amen.

How To Dream Big Even As Children – 2

How To Dream Big Even As Children – 2

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Yesterday we looked at first discovering what your dream is concerning your future exploits. Today let’s look at how you can dream big.

First, pray to God for help because He knows all about your life, even before you were born…

“…you saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book, before any one of them began”. Psalms 139: 16 GNB.

From the above verse you can see that God knows all about you. He knows what you will become, how you will do so, how far you will do so and more. That’s why He is the person you should speak to concerning this issue (your dream).

Also, as you think of what you want to become, how big do you see yourself walking in that role? If you have a gift for art, how far do you see your artworks going? Where will you display them? Will you have your own gallery or not? Will you create your own line of drawing or painting brushes or palettes? Learn to dream big!

Dreaming big is not being proud, it’s being truthful to yourself and what God has shown you about what your future holds.

“The Lord asked me, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” I answered, “A branch of an almond tree.” “You are right,” the Lord said, “and I am watching to see that my words come true.” Jer. 1:11-12 GNB.

Just like the Lord spoke to Jeremiah, He is also speaking to you. He has given you images, pictures, visions of what He has deposited in you and wants you to do. Be like the prophet Jeremiah and see what God is showing you.

Dream big! Dream the big dreams God has put in you. Don’t think otherwise. He is watching to see if you are following the dreams He has put in you.

May the eyes of your understanding be opened and may you see with the eyes of the Lord, Amen.

Prayer:

God, help me to see what You are showing me. Give me the grace to dream big. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Action plan:

Begin to write down the ideas you have about your dreams. Writing them helps you to keep in touch with your dreams.

How To Dream Big Even As Children

How To Dream Big Even As Children

Reading Time: 2 minutes

What’s a dream? Not what happens when you close your eyes and sleep at night. This type of dream is what you hope to become when you grow older. It’s what you imagine yourself to be. Maybe an athlete, drummer, doctor, teacher, software programmer, or developer. It’s the professional you want to become.

The first step towards dreaming big about what you hope to become in the future is discovering what you want to become in the future. No one becomes anything without first seeing themselves becoming that. It’s what you choose to become – what you have a passion for that you will become. That’s your dream.

How do you discover this passion? Look around you, what do you like to do? If you like to draw and paint, that could mean a future in art is your profession. Do you like taking care of animals –  it could mean you have a calling as a veterinary doctor. Think about what you like to do the most. That is how you will discover your passion. That could then become your dream.

You can also ask the people around you like your parents, friends or siblings. Or even speak to a guidance counselor about this. They can point you in the direction to go.

The best way is still to pray about it. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you choose well. Ask Him to help you dream.

“You are my God; teach me to do your will. Be good to me, and guide me on a safe path.” Psalms 143: 10 GNB.

Holding The Hand Of A Friend In Comfort

Holding The Hand Of A Friend In Comfort

Reading Time: 2 minutes

John didn’t say a word. He sat still and quiet while his friend cried. Tunji, his best friend at school, just lost his dad and they were in his friend’s room right now. Tunji’s pillows were wet with his tears, the bed covers rough and halfway down on the floor. His cries echoed throughout the room as he laid on the bed. Who could comfort Tunji?

There was nothing John could do other than to sit and wait for his friend to talk when he felt like it. Though deeply saddened to see his friend like this, there was nothing he could do, but to pray that God would comfort Tunji for the loss. And of course, stay by his side.

When a friend is in a state like Tunji is, the only thing to do is pray for them like John is and ensuring that you are by them. Don’t try to talk unless they ask you to or do so themselves. Never expect them to hurry out of their grief or tell them to. They need the time to grieve and mourn their loss as much as they have to. All they need is your silence and presence. They need your support. Be there to comfort them.

That is what is it means to hold the hand of a friend. You let them know that you are available for them. Your care doesnt have to be in words but in action most times.

Only God will comfort them for their loss as the bible tells us.

May the Lord make you a good friend at all times. Amen.

Prayer:
Lord, make me a good friend that will be there for my friends when they are in their lowest moments. Help me to hold their hands, in comfort, all through. In Jesus name, amen.

Action plan:
When next you see a friend going through a tough time, pray for and support them; comfort them.

How To Get God To Answer Your Prayers

How To Get God To Answer Your Prayers

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Temiloluwa ensured that everyone around her felt her sadness and displeasure. She sighed sadly, squeezed her face, hissed many times, kept a low profile and didn’t give much attention when spoken to. God had not answered her prayers. This was like the hundredth time she had asked for Tina, her friend, who was failing miserably at school. Her last test score was poor and the rest of the class made fun of her when the teacher announced the scores.

Wasn’t God supposed to answer prayers? Wasn’t He the All-Powerful and Great God? The All-Knowing, All-Seeing and All-Doing God? She couldn’t help but wonder why God didn’t want Tina to do well at school.

‘You have been sighing and frowning since you came back from school and all morning too,’ her mother said to her later that day. ‘What’s going on with you? Care to share?’

‘It’s God,’ Temiloluwa replied.

‘What about God?’

‘He doesn’t want to answer my prayers.’

‘What have you been praying for?’

‘I have been asking Him to help Tina pass her exams and tests at school.’

‘And how do you know so?’ her mother asked again.

‘She failed the test again yesterday. Doesn’t God answer prayers anymore?’

‘Of course, He still answers prayers and will always do so.’ Her mother wondered why she would ask such a question.

Then why hasn’t He answered my prayers? Why is Tina still failing her tests?’

‘Is she studying as she should? Does she listen in class and understand her lessons?’

‘She does, mum. She sits beside me in class.’

‘Have you tried asking her what the problem is and maybe help her study after school?’

Temiloluwa paused and thought about this. She had never asked Tina that. ‘No, mommy. I have never asked her what the problem was.’

‘There goes your answered prayer.’

Have you ever felt like Temiloluwa?

Apart from praying for someone, you can always ask them what the problem is and see if you can help. That can be your answered prayers sometimes.

Temiloluwa asked Tina what the problem was and discovered that Tina felt timid in asking questions when she didn’t understand the lessons. With this knowledge, Temiloluwa was able to explain and teach her friend, and in no time, Tina’s grades improved at school.

Answered prayers, right?

Have a blessed day, God bless you. Amen.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the many ways you answer my prayers. You are the All-Knowing, All-Seeing, and All-Doing God. Blessed be Your name. Amen.

How To Have Faith For Healing

How To Have Faith For Healing

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sade stood afar watching how the crowd pushed towards the table stand where some girls stood, sharing fliers for a singing audition. She loved to sing but wasn’t so sure she would make an audition. Her toothbrush was her microphone and her younger brother was no help at all. So it was as though her faith was low. She moved towards the crowd, biting her lips and clenching her fists.

“Here goes nothing”, she told herself as she got closer.

There was a lady in the bible who felt just the way Sade did. A woman with a long-standing health issue stood where Jesus was. She had heard of how Jesus had been healing people and wondered if He would heal her. But she had faith!

The woman thought, “If I can even touch his coat, that will be enough to heal me.” Mark 5:28 ICB

After much deliberation, she found her way through the thick crowd around Jesus and touched the hem of His garment. Instantly she was healed and Jesus knew someone had touched Him. He asked who had, the woman came forward, told Him her condition and He further prayed for her (Mark: 5:29-34). Now that’s faith there!

I’m sure the woman too said, ” Here goes nothing”, as she went ahead to touch Jesus’ garment. Just like Sade did too.

You never know what will happen if you don’t take that much-needed step. Are you still unsure of taking that step forward to accept Christ as your Saviour and Lord? You think He will reject you or that you are not good enough for Him? Jesus Christ will never reject anybody that comes to Him. He loves you more than you could ever imagine. Simply have faith.

So, take a bold step today and touch the hem of His garment, let Him help you. May the help of God always find you, Amen.

Prayer:
Lord, Jesus, like the woman with the issue of blood, I hold on to the hem of your garment. I have faith, and I receive all that I need right now. In Your mighty name, I pray, amen

Action plan:
Reach out to Jesus today and always. Touch His garment daily and as much a stout need to.

Letters To God

Letters To God

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Dear God
Well, you start writing a letter with the word “Dear” and God much likes it when you call Him that.

Have you ever wondered how writing a letter to God would be like? It’s pretty much simple. Just pick a writing pad, notebook, or something to write on and start to write.

After starting with a “Dear God”, you tell Him why He is so great and powerful, why you love Him, and why people praise and worship Him.

Then begin to thank Him for what He has done for you, your parents, siblings, friends and people around you. It’s good to thank Him for not only what He has done for you but for others too.

Move on to laying your requests before Him. Tell Him what you need and it’s not like He doesn’t know but He wants you to still say it. He says you should ask Him of anything and He will answer, that it’s what He hears you say that He will do.

Ask in faith and not in fear, knowing that your heavenly Father is able to do far more than you can ever imagine. Ask knowing that He hears your prayers.

“Behold, I am the Lord , the God of all flesh; is there anything too difficult for Me?”
(Jeremiah 32:27) AMP

Then bring in some more praise and worship as you thank Him for a time in His presence. Thank Him for answered prayers. Give Him the glory and honor due to His name. Don’t forget to close with a faith-filled “In Jesus’ name.”

Of course, you should put your name at the end because all letters end with the name of the writer.
How about you write a letter to God write now, starting with ‘Dear God.”

May the Lord answer all your prayers. Amen.

Prayer:

Lord, I come before You in praise and worship. I adore and exalt Your name.

Action plan:

Write out your prayer list before you start your letter so that you can remember all that you want to write to God.

How To Worship Without Distracting Others

How To Worship Without Distracting Others

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Remember we said that prayer is like a one-on-one session with God? It’s time alone with God and not open to anyone or anything to cause any distraction. Distracting someone in prayer is not cool at all.

So, when you see someone praying maybe during church service or not, it’s not the time to start distracting them. It’s not cool to make a joke then or nudge them to look at someone or something irrelevant or trivial.

Don’t tap someone who is praying and say “Hey, look at Tom’s torn jeans” or “See how messed up Susan’s hair is.” It’s really not cool to make jokes about people’s looks, clothes, or social status. And not even during prayers. And God doesn’t want you to do so.

When you do so, you are distracting them from God – you break their connection to God at that time. This prevents them from hearing or receiving a message from God at that time.

Just like you shouldn’t allow anyone or anything to break your focus during prayer, you shouldn’t do so to others too. Let them enjoy the same blessing you receive from praying to God. Don’t be a stumbling block in their path; stop distracting them.

Prayer is an important ingredient to any Christian’s life. It’s important in your life. May the Lord give you a heart of understanding. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer:
Lord, I don’t want to be a stumbling block in the paths of people during their praying time; help me not to be distracting people. Help me to remain focused on You during prayer. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Action plan:
When next you feel the urge to talk to someone and make a joke during prayers, ask the Holy Spirit for help. And don’t do it.

Confession:
My children are true worshippers. They worship God in spirit and in truth. They will not be distracting others in their worship.
