Teaching Our Children The Art Of Giving

Teaching Our Children The Art Of Giving

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The art of giving is one that every parent should teach the child. Giving is a core part of our Christian faith and God desires we do it. Seun kept frowning all the way home. He was missing his white sneakers already and kept picturing them on Sunday’s feet; his best sneakers. He had saved to buy them.

There is a type of giving that is sacrificial. Giving we do that is very dear to us. We take something very precious to us and give it to someone who really needs it urgently. This is an aspect in the art of giving.

You don’t give because there is an extra one available somewhere. There is none somewhere. You are not even expecting another one to surface instantly. You give the only one you have and learn to live without that thing.

Sacrificial giving is the height of giving because the purpose for giving is the major idea. That is the goal for the giving.

God demonstrated this type of giving to us when Jesus died for the sins of the whole world. That means that God knows the art of giving. See the Scripture:

John 3:16 ICB “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. God gave his Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life.”

God gave Jesus up for us. There was no other son. The purpose for giving up Jesus (our eternity) was more important to God at that moment.

Abraham also knew the art of giving. Look at the story of Abraham about to sacrifice Isaac. The son he loved the most. He was ready to give him up for God. Not until God told him to stop, Abraham was ready to go the extra length with Isaac.

You can give your time, efforts, talents, money, knowledge all for the sake of seeing a change in someone’s life, your environment, church, or country; a change that would drastically bring a huge change to lives and society. You should learn the art of giving.

God bless you marvelously. Amen

Prayer point:
Lord, help me to give to change the lives and world around me. Make me a change maker just like you did with Jesus. Help me to learn the art of giving. Amen.

The Lord Is Fighting Our Battles

The Lord Is Fighting Our Battles

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We live in a world where there are constant battles, but we are not afraid because we always win. How? Let me start by asking you my own question. Can you believe that heaven has its own armies just like nations here on earth do too? Just for a second, imagine that. Generals, colonels, captains, sergeants – the whole rank and file of the military. Wow.

Who do you think is going to be the head of this army? Your guess is as good as mine. God is the commander of the armies of heaven. The great Grand Commander of the armies of heaven. Remember that He is Elohim, the Eternal Creator. So what are those battles He will not win? They definitely don’t exist. He created all things including the hosts of heaven.

As the Grand Commander of these armies, He makes plans concerning your future and ensuring it is a bright one. He gives you victory in the battles of life.

He sends out units of angels to protect and provide for His children (you and I and every other child of God). Angels are God’s heavenly messengers who obey His every bidding.

“…You are his servants who do want He wants.” Psalm 103:21 ICB.

When  Joshua and the Israelites faced their enemies, God sent His angel to help them (Joshua 5:13-14). God helped them in the battles they fought.

Angels also are sent to deliver messages to God’s children. Like the angel told Mary of how she was going to give birth to the Messiah.

The Holy Spirit also equips you with the ability to warfare in the spiritual realm by His presence inside of you. An example of this is when you suddenly get an urge from the Holy Spirit to pray or when you know you need to pray. The Holy Spirit supplies you with the words to engage in the spiritual arena. He gives you the strength for the battles too.

In every battle God is present, watching the turn of events, though the result may be disappointing, knowing that God never loses a battle should be your assurance of victory.

Again, He never loses in battles. When He goes to war, He always wins.

May God fight your everyday battles for you in Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer point:
Lord of the Armies of Heaven, I praise and worship You. Thank you for Your dedication to fighting all my battles. I come out victorious and stronger from all my battles because of You God. Thank you.

Praying For The Peace Of God As A Child

Praying For The Peace Of God As A Child

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Today we would be looking at how we can know the peace of God. In the world we live today, everyone is bound to have troubles; including you. It could be problems with making good grades at school, bad friends, sibling rivalry, or even puberty. As a child of God, you should not be worried about any trouble. Acknowledge that you have an issue that you probably don’t know how to handle and need help with it.

Whatever it is, remember the God that you serve – Jehovah Shalom, the Lord your Peace.

Jesus said to the disciples in

John 14:27, “I leave you peace. My peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world does. So don’t let your hearts be troubled. Don’t be afraid.” ICB.

Whatever the problem is, God has the power to solve it. Not only to do it but also to give you His peace as an added advantage. The peace of God is powerful. When you have God’s peace, you are not troubled or worried about the outcome of the situation. As long as you bring God into the situation and receive His peace, you will come out shining.

As he is protecting you, He is also keeping you at peace. He is saying to you “Don’t worry, relax, calm down, smell the roses, look at the sun, smile, laugh, my beloved child. You are safe here with me.

In other words, God is saying, “look at me, me only, not anybody or anything. No matter how bad the problem is, I am bigger and better than that problem. And I have a perfect and permanent solution to rectifying the problem.” By believing these words, you will experience the peace of God.

That is your God, dear child. The one and only true God that as He reveals or you discover one part of his nature, another unfolds and keeps unfolding. All for the glorification of His name. Hallelujah!

How do you receive this peace of God? Believing and trusting in God’s word –

“You, Lord, give true peace. You give peace to those who depend on you. You give peace to those who trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3 ICB.

So, what is that problem you are facing right now? Call on God. When next a problem arises, remember to call on God first (pray) before you tell or call anyone.

May Jehovah Shalom continue to be with you. Receive peace of God in Jesus Name. Amen.

Prayer point:
I receive the peace in Your name and being. I refuse to let my troubles drown Your power to help me. I receive your peace daily and remain blessed in Jesus name. amen.

Relating With The Lord Our Righteousness

Relating With The Lord Our Righteousness

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Do you know God as The Lord our Righteousness? That’s Jehovah Tsidkenu in Hebrew. It’s important you understand this dimension of God.

“But the Lord rules forever. He sits on his throne to judge. The Lord will judge the world by what is right. He will decide what is fair for the nations.

Psalm 9:7-8

God is our righteousness. He decides what is right and fair. You need not worry as a child of His if his decision will favour you or not.

Remember, He said that His plans for you are going to be good. Even if they don’t seem good right now, understanding who God is and how He works should put your mind at ease. He is the Lord our righteousness.

Who is righteous? No one. Not even your parents or grandparents.

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

Sin created a gap between us and God which was bridged by the death of Christ on the cross. Jesus Christ was the only one whose righteousness could cover this gap. Follow carefully as we try to understand the Lord our righteousness.

“God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” 2 Corinthians 5:21.

Christ died that we might be righteous before God.

Why does God need us to be righteous? God needs us to be righteous at all times so that our fellowship with Him can be pure just like it was at Eden. The way He had planned it.

God also needs us to be righteous so that He can bless us with His presence. When we continually sin, God can’t fellowship with us because of the stain of sin upon us. You might say, Jesus has died for my sake, He took my sins and that’s it. So we can call God the Lord our righteousness.

Jesus died once for you to be in right standing with God, but you have to keep maintaining that which He died for you to have – direct access to the Lord Almighty. Accepting Christ is not the only criterion for having easy access to God, in as much as it is so important, but consciously walking in that righteousness is equally important.

When you have a consciousness of this and practice it constantly, with help from God, that is when you can boldly come before the throne of God to receive mercy and grace. This indeed is the work of the Lord our righteousness.

Another reason for righteousness is that the enemy will not accuse us when we come before the presence of God. How does it happen? You sin and don’t ask for forgiveness. When you start to pray the devil starts to play this sin in your mind, tells you that God won’t forgive you because you are a sinner, thereby discouraging you from praying. But as a child of God who knows that your God is your righteousness, you will do the right thing by quickly confessing your sin and receiving forgiveness.

Prayer point:
God, you are my righteousness. Help me to know that you are ‘the Lord our righteousness’ always. I thank you for this. Amen

The Healing Power In The Name Of God

The Healing Power In The Name Of God

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Do you know God can heal you or anyone you know from any medical condition? God has the healing power! It could even be healing from a negative way of thinking. He can heal you of bad thinking. His healing ability goes beyond the body but to the mind, spirit, and soul.

Don’t believe what the enemy or anyone tells you. Not even what the doctor says. God is the greatest doctor of all. Yes, you will still have to use your drugs, do the exercises, stop watching those wrong movies, but God is still the one that has the power to heal you.

Don’t let your mind dwell on people who didn’t recover from a medical condition like yours or someone else you know. Believe that your case is different with God. This is because you know that God has the healing power.

It is God’s will that you are healed and stay in good health. The bible tells us so in

3 John 1:2 “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” KJV.

Look at the ways God demonstrates His healing power; the way God comes to heal us.

Jesus, the son of God, was beaten and died on the cross for your health to be restored and made stronger. The bible records that “…we are healed because of his wounds.” Isaiah 53:5 ICB.

The Holy Spirit of God dwells inside of us

“You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit.” 1Cor. 6:19 ICB.

Where God’s spirit is, no pain or disease can remain there, as long as you have the faith that God can heal you, through His healing power.

Jesus healed people during His stay here on earth. The woman with the issue of blood believed if she just touched His garment she would be healed. And she was healed.

The disciples healed many people in the name of Jesus Christ. Ordinary men who believed in God and filled with His power were able to perform many healing miracles.

You don’t need to do any activity other than to put your faith into action by asking for God’s healing power and, believe too.

God bless you as you ask and believe. Amen

Prayer:
Thank You for Your healing power that has always been in effect in my life. Heal me more, in Jesus name. Amen.

The Lord God As My Provider Always

The Lord God As My Provider Always

Reading Time: 2 minutes

You must learn to acknowledge God as ‘My Provider.’ God is a provider. He gave life, air to breath, legs to walk, hands to use, eyes to see and so much more. What else can’t He give you? What lengths can’t He go for your sake? What can’t He do for you? As long as you are His child (accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour), God will always provide for you.

You should acknowledge God as ‘my provider.’ When Abram was asked to give Isaac to God as an offering, the old man obeyed without throwing one question at God. Even at the last stage when it seemed like God wasn’t going to show up, he went on. And at the last minute, God showed up – showed Abram the ram for the sacrifice.

You need to hold on to the promises of God to provide for your needs, no matter how much, enormous, ridiculous, expensive, and impossible those needs are. Don’t trust in man, trust in God. Believe Him for that which you want. Know Him as ‘my provider.’

He doesn’t need to invest in a business so He can reap the profits in six months’ time. Then give us what we need. He doesn’t need to borrow before He gives us. He has no need to beg anyone for help. He doesn’t need anybody’s permission to take money out of any account nor does He need to create an account in any bank. He doesn’t need to sell anything. He owns heaven and earth and all that is in it “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof” That is your God, dear child. You should learn to acknowledge Him as ‘my provider.’

May Jehovah Jireh show Himself true to you. Amen

Prayer:
Jehovah Jireh, Almighty Provider, thank You for Your provision for me through the years. You are my provider.

Saying ‘Thank You’ Always As A Child

Saying ‘Thank You’ Always As A Child

Reading Time: 2 minutes

What’s with saying “Thank you?” Why all the fuss? These and many more may be the questions in your heart as a child. Maybe you have heard your parents tell you, over and over again, to always be grateful for every act of kindness you receive from anyone, and you are wondering how to do it so that you will do it well.

Now saying “thank you” is much more than speaking the words. It should come from deep within you. It is a sign that you truly appreciate what was done for you.

Being grateful is sweet because it tells the person doing you the favour that the help they rendered to you was indeed needed by you. No one wants to receive what they don’t need. So also, no one wants to give help or do favours that are not needed.

Again, your show of gratitude (through a ‘thank you’) tells the person that their time wasn’t wasted on you. If you refuse to say or show your gratitude, you are saying to them that they just wasted their time and resources on you. That you don’t need it. Or even value it.

That’s very unfair and could mar your chances of ever receiving from them again. And when you continue that way, a time will come when no one would want to do you good. That’s a bad place to be!

Today and onwards, learn to show your gratitude with your words (saying ‘thank you’) and actions. Let these two things tell people you are an appreciative person.

God bless you. Amen

Prayer:

Lord, for me a heart of gratitude. Teach me to always say thank you for all help I receive. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Action point:

You can have a gratitude journal where you record all the help that has come to you both from God and others.

Making Prayer To The Almighty God

Making Prayer To The Almighty God

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The almighty God! What does it mean to be more than enough? How does one become more than enough? Can anyone be more than enough? Humanly speaking, it is outrightly impossible to do or be so. But not with the Creator of Heaven and Earth.

God is El Shaddai – the Almighty God who is more than enough for us. His power to help, protect, provide, and deliver us is more than we need. Imagine for a second, you need two cups of cereal to eat and there are ten cups of it in the package. You take the two needed and keep the rest, knowing in your mind that there are still eight cups left. You keep going back for more when you need to.

When God does something for you, don’t think He is out of stock. Rather, He has an indefinite supply of every and all the things you need or can ever need. Be it knowledge, strength, finances, friends, healing, jobs, protection – just name it. Remember, He created the world by just saying “Let there be….” He is the almighty God!

El Shaddai, the All-Sufficient One, gives us life, nurtures us through His word and Spirit, and pours Himself (blessings) daily into us. Let’s look at a mother and child relationship.

Your mother gave birth to (life) and weaned you at her breast (nurture) – that means daily, she kept pouring herself into you (developing a deep and intimate relationship between you two). The relationship brought you comfort, protection, and security. As you think of this, think of the almighty God.

As a result of the nourishment received from her, you grew in good health and matured. She never worried that she could be out of breast milk. Why? Because nature has seen to it that she will always have an abundant supply to feed you with. In fact, the moment she got pregnant with you, nature had ensured that breast milk was going to be available for you. So, there was a supply of it – nourishment, waiting for you even before your birth.

El Shaddai isn’t worried that He doesn’t or won’t have enough to give you because He is the God that owns heaven and earth. He is the almighty God!

God is always filled and prepared to meet our needs. He wants to comfort and pass His being into us through His Word and Spirit. Just like a mother won’t forget or ignore her crying child, El Shaddai won’t and doesn’t forget you. In the event that a mother forgets or ignores her child’s cry, El Shaddai won’t.

“The Lord answers, “Can a woman forget the baby she nurses? Can she feel no kindness for the child she gave birth to? Even if she could forget her children, I will not forget you. see, I have written your name on my hand. Jerusalem, I always think about your walls.” Isaiah 49: 15-16, ICB.

Two things to remember – God is never out of supply (no scarcity or lack) and there is nothing you need that God cannot give or do for you. He is indeed the almighty God.

God bless you. Amen

Prayer:
El Shaddai, thank You for the abundance of Your love for me. Come be El Shaddai more in my life. Let Your over-sufficiency cover up all my insufficiencies. Amen.

Acknowledging God As ‘My Rock’

Acknowledging God As ‘My Rock’

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Have you ever thought of God as ‘my Rock’? Have you ever held a rock in your hands? How did it feel like? Were you able to crush it?

Look at how huge and dominating the mountains are. What do you think can ever move them? Who can lift them from where they are to another place? Who can lift them on his shoulders? Who has the strength to lift them?

Can all the water of the seas move any mountain? As you digest these questions, think of God.

An attribute unique to God is that He is a rock – unbreakable, untouchable, unmovable, unshakeable. No one can claim that he can touch God to the point of moving, shaking, or breaking Him. That is how strong your God is.

A mountain is a huge rock that towers high over the land and it cannot be moved. That’s how God towers over you when he protects you. He doesn’t move but stays right there in front of you. He doesn’t move

“The Lord also will be a refuge and a stronghold for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble;” Psalm 9:9 AMP.

It takes a great amount of firepower to blast a mountain apart. No power both on earth and in heaven can confront God and break Him. So when He stands in front of you, there’s an assurance that He won’t be shaken or destroyed.

“And those who know Your name (who have experienced Your precious mercy) will put their confident trust in You, For You, O Lord have not abandoned those who seek You.” Psalm 9:10

When you call, believe, and see Him as your Rock, nothing can shake, break, touch or move you because you are right behind God. He protects you from any harm or danger. Whatever cannot touch Him cannot reach you. He becomes a shield for you, covering all around you.

When tough situations come your way hang tight to Him, say to yourself that the Lord is your Rock, He is Jehovah Tsuri.

“The Lord is my rock, my place of safety, my Savior. My God is my rock. I can run to him for safety. He is my shield and my saving strength. The Lord is my high tower and my place of safety. The Lord saves me from those who want to harm me.” 2 Samuel 22: 2-4 ICB.

Prayer:
I bless You my Rock and Shield. Thank You Jehovah Tsuri for always being who You are for me. Glory be unto Your name, in Jesus name. Amen.

How To Rely On The Strong One Who Sees You

How To Rely On The Strong One Who Sees You

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Our God is an ever-present God who sees all things including you. He sees you. He sees all that you do as well as all that happens to you. In fact, He sees all things even before they happen to you. And because of this, He will always provide help or avert bad things from happening to you.

The Bible tells us that God’s eyes go about the whole earth, looking upon all mankind. There is nothing that He doesn’t see.

The Bible again tells us that God doesn’t sleep or slumber. He is constantly aware of all the happenings around the world. God sees you truly.

When bad things happen, don’t think God doesn’t know or see. Don’t think God has forgotten or doesn’t care about you. He knows when you need help and will provide help. Remember He is Jehovah Rohi – the Lord my Shepherd. Even before you call for help, He knows.

Take the story of Hagar. Though she was rude to Sarai her mistress and had to leave the house, God had pity on her. She was alone in the desert and thirsty, yet the Lord helped her. He saw that she was in need of help and provided it. Did you see that? Just know that God sees you.

Also, God saw all that Joseph went through. He helped him through it all from being sold as a slave, while in the house of Potiphar, in the jail cell, and at the end of it all He made Joseph the Prime Minister of the whole of Egypt as recorded in Genesis chapters 39 to 41.

That is how much El Roi loves His children. He sees all.
Tell Him that He is the Lord who sees you. Hallelujah.

Prayer:
Lord, you are El Roi, thank you for you see me. You see my circumstances as they happen and before they do. Always see me Lord so you can forever protect me. Thank you, God, in Jesus name. Amen.

Jehovah Rohi: “The Lord is my Shepherd”

Jehovah Rohi: “The Lord is my Shepherd”

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Today we will be looking at Jehovah Rohi – The Lord is my Shepherd. A shepherd guides a flock of sheep through different terrains. He ensures that they eat from the best vegetation around them and protects them from any harm.

The sheep also trust in the Shepherd to protect and provide for them. They know nothing about where the best grasses are or where danger persists. That is why they trust their Shepherd.

God’s unique name – Jehovah Rohi, shows you another dimension from which He operates. This is the area where He shows Himself as a Protector and Provider.

From the abundance of His heart and might, He provides for all our needs. Whatever they are, God is able to meet them all. Just like He is Elohim, the Eternal Creator, He is also the Shepherd who meets all of your needs.

He also is the One who protects you from all harm. The Shepherd will always fight off any predator who wants to harm the sheep. He won’t leave any stone unturned to ensure that the sheep are safe.

When you pray to the Lord as your Shepherd (Jehovah Rohi), this calls on God to reveal Himself as both a provider and a protector.

Like the Psalmist said in

Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd. I have everything I need.” ICB.

When you read the whole of Psalm twenty-three, you will see how the Psalmist totally expressed his total dependence and trust in Jehovah Rohi. He trusted God for protection, provision, and peace of mind.

God sees you when things are good and bad and is always ready to help you. He knows what to do and how to do it.

Psalm 37:18-19 “The Lord knoweth the days of the upright and their inheritance shall be forever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the day of famine they shall be satisfied.”

Pray and call Him Jehovah Rohi. Let Him be your Provider and Protector.
Jehovah Rohi protects and provides for you. Amen.

Prayer:
Jehovah Rohi, thank you for providing and protecting me always. I am grateful for your care always.

Praying With The Names of God – Elohim

Praying With The Names of God – Elohim

Reading Time: 2 minutes

One of the names of God is ELOHIM – the Eternal Creator.

Elohim was in existence before all things. He was before time and seasons. The One existing before the creation of the world, man, and everything. That is one of the things this name of God represents. He is the One that existed before all things, and is the Creator of all things… but was created by no one.

Gen. 1:1 “In the beginning God (Elohim) created (from nothing) the heavens and the earth.” AMP.

This tells you how old God is – even before the creation of the earth. He is the One that thought up light, animals, the seas, plants, the sky, day and night, man, et cetera.

Elohim not only thought them but created them out of nothing as we read earlier and with just by saying “Let there be…” Therefore God thought them up, then spoke them into being. That’s the God we serve.

Dear child, the God you serve is older than the earth you walk on, the air inside your lungs, what you eat, the sun and moon in the sky, and so on. Yes, allow that to sink into your innermost being. I will say it again: Dear child, the God you serve is older than the earth you walk on, the air inside your lungs, what you eat, the sun and moon in the sky, and so on.

He created the world out of His eternal love for you.

Elohim created it because He had the power, knowledge, and resources to do so.

He created it so you can worship Him.

So, today, call Him Elohim – the Eternal Creator.

Prayer:
Elohim, I thank you for being my God. I praise you for your might and power. Give me the creative ability to create like you, in Jesus name. Amen.

Praying With The Names of God

Praying With The Names of God

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Everyone has names. Your name is a reflection of the relationship between you and another person. You call your mother “mommy” because that is who she is to you – your mother.  She refers to you as her son because she gave birth to you. There is a mother-son relationship between you two.

God, also, has other names.  Did I hear you say what? Yeah, He does. You call Him God, Jehovah, Yahweh, Almighty, and more. But there are also very special ways we refer to God.

These other names tell us about the unique qualities that God possesses.  They tell us of the many different dimensions of how God operates. Like a car has different parts and each part contributes to how we identify a car.

God has different names that reflect His many attributes as the creator of all the earth and mankind. Each name speaks to a part of Him that we see or want to see in operation in our lives.

When you call Him by one of these names, it draws out a part of His essence, something unique and powerful about Him. You are calling Him to be that which you have called Him to be.

Knowing and calling Him these names help you develop a deeper relationship with Him. You marvel and wonder at how great and mighty He is.

Also, you get to depend on Him and not on your strength, intelligence, power, skills, or social standing. When you identify Him as your helper, provider, keeper, friend, et cetera., it helps to put your total trust in Him.

Lastly, these names of God reveal deeper worship of Him. You just get lost in the amazing greatness of Him, His name, and Word.

These names remind you of who God is and can be for and to you. Your God can be anything and everything you want Him to be. He wants to display His power and sovereignty for you.

Tomorrow we will start the series and see the many ways God displays His power and might through His names.

God bless you. Amen

Prayer:
Lord, I am glad that I have other names to call you. Help me know these and use them.

How To Make Your Grandparents Happy

How To Make Your Grandparents Happy

Reading Time: 2 minutes

You should learn how to make your grandparents happy. As soon as Daniel’s grandma saw him, she began to shake her head. His hair was uncombed, his shirt unbuttoned down to his chest and he had no belt around his trousers. The trousers were sagging to his thighs and he kept pulling them up.

Are you sure your grandparents have happy thoughts when they think of you or heavy thoughts filled with fear for you?

The bible says that

Grandchildren are the reward of old people. And children are proud of their parents Prov. 17:6 ICB.

Did you see that? This shows that grandparents will love to see their grandchildren make the best of their lives. So you should learn to make your grandparents happy.

Live in a way that makes your grandparents proud of you; this will make your grandparents happy.

When grandparents see their grandchild living the right way, it is a source of joy for them. It gives them a feeling that they have once more raised a child the right way.

When your grandparents see you, they should be filed with joy.
Do not live your life in such a way that will cut short their lives.

Remember, they were once like you many decades ago, so if they give you an instruction, it is wise that you follow through. Following the instructions of your grandparents will make your grandparents happy.

So, check your lifestyle and ask if your grandparents would like the way you are living now.

Are you a reward for them?

May God make you bring happiness to your grandparents. Amen.

Prayer:
Lord, I want to live in a way that would bring much joy to my grandparents.

Action point:
What things about you do you think your grandparents wouldn’t like? Put away those things so as to make your grandparents happy.

Saying ‘Thank You’ Always As A Child

How Your Children Can Praise The Lord

Reading Time: 2 minutes

How often do you praise the Lord? During family devotions in the mornings? On the assembly ground at school? Sunday school?

Psalm 145:1 “I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Everyday I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.”

You must have a personal time where you praise the Lord . There are so many ways to do this. Some ways are:

1. Reading psalms of praise from the bible.
2. Play and sing along to praise songs.
3. Sing from your heart praise songs.
4. Write love letters to God telling Him how much You love Him.
5. Write poems of praise.

When you praise the Lord, you are exalting Him over everything and everyone in all the earth and heaven. You are acknowledging Him as your Lord. God enjoys our praises. He delights in them, and he wants us to continually praise Him.

Only God deserves your praise. Make it a daily habit of praising God. You don’t have to spend long hours at it unless you are led to do so. And ensure that the time you have put aside for praising God is used for that. Don’t allow distractions.

Focus on God and His mightiness and splendor. He wants to hear you praise Him always. It is a good thing to praise the LORD! And it’s something you should learn to do always. Praise the Lord!

God bless you and receive your praises. Amen .

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for receiving my praises. You are the Almighty God. The Lord highest. I praise You with all my being. Help me to always praise You. Amen.

Action points:
Praise the Lord for some time today. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you new ways to praise God.

How To Pray – Listen And Watch Others

How To Pray – Listen And Watch Others

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The last way we will look at, in this series where we are learning how to pray, is by listening and watching others.

At home, listen to how your parents pray. Notice their choice of words, what they use to pray, where and how they pray, whether they hold hands, do they pray in the Holy Ghost? Do they shout or mutter to themselves? When do they raise their voices? What do they do then? Do they say a prayer at night? How often? What time at night? Do they say a prayer in the morning? How often? What time in the morning? This is a way of learning how to pray.

This list is just a way for you to see how prayer is done. What you notice might not be how you would want to do yours, but it would certainly help you to learn the art of prayer.

At church, watch how people pray. Sure, you will see tons of differences there. Again, you are not meant to follow everything you see. The Holy Spirit can give you your own way. He will supply you with the words to use. That is how unique you are to God. Yes, you are unique to God and He will teach you how to pray too.

Watching and listening to fellow Christians praying is meant to point out to you where you need to improve, how to improve, what to stop doing, and what to continue. You learn, unlearn and relearn.

The bible says we should not abandon the gathering of brethren. I believe this is to help us grow spiritually. Part of spiritual growth in Christianity is learning how to pray. When in the presence of other brethren regularly, we grow our prayer muscles.

Iron sharpens iron as the bible says, so, if you want to learn how to pray, one sure way to do that is to watch and listen to other believers when they say a prayer. Be a sponge and soak what you see. Also, as a sponge get ready to be squeezed – flushing out wrong perceptions about prayer, building your prayer muscles for more spiritual growth, and learning new ways and things about prayer.

May God bless you with the grace to learn how to pray. Amen.

Prayer:
Dear Father, thank You for the wonderful believers you have surrounded me with. I ask that you enable me to glean from their prayer life. Let the Holy Spirit lead me on which to use, let go of, and continue using, in Jesus name, amen.

Action point:
Learn how to pray by taking a good look at your parents when next they pray. Note how they do so – time, words, gestures, voice intonation, et cetera. Look at three believers you know, either at church or elsewhere, notice how they say their prayer too. What do you like about how all these people pray? What does the Holy Spirit say about them to you?

More Benefits Of Praying in The Holy Ghost

More Benefits Of Praying in The Holy Ghost

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Yesterday, we started on how the Holy Ghost helps us to pray as children. Let’s continue with more benefits of praying in the Holy Ghost.

Sometimes, while praying in the spirit, God could drop a word that you should continue to pray or stop. He could also give you simple instructions.

More benefits of praying in the Holy Ghost is that it helps you to trust the Holy Spirit more and more. You trust the process – that every time you engage in prayer using the Holy Spirit, He connects you directly to the Father and helps speak what is on your mind to Him.

The bible says the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf with groaning. He teaches us what to say, when, and how to do so. This was evident in the lives of the disciples after they received the Holy Spirit.

More benefits of praying in the Holy Ghost is that it helps you pray with ease. It’s a language you don’t know how the words are formed. Even if you write them down, they don’t follow any earthly language pattern. They just flow out of your spirit.

You can also praise God in the Holy Spirit. Praising God in a language you don’t know. How sweet does that sound? God hears you call Him beautiful names in the language of heaven. Don’t you think God will smile?

One final thing the Holy Spirit can do is to lead you to pray for someone somewhere who might be in danger at a particular time. This is also part of more benefits of praying in the Holy Ghost. He asks you to pray to help avert danger or get help. This way, he leads you to intercede on someone’s behalf as He does on our behalf with God. So, you can see the immense benefits of having the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit can be imparted into you either by another believer or the Holy Spirit Himself. If you are yet to receive the Holy Spirit, ask your parents, pastor, or another believer full of the Holy Spirit to lay hands on you.

I pray that the Holy Spirit will come upon you in Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer:
Dear Holy Spirit, thank you for all that you are. LORD, open my eyes to more benefits of praying in the Spirit. I ask that you come upon me and teach me how to pray. Help me to pray from the heart of the father in Jesus name. Amen.

Praying In The Spirit Has Benefits

Praying In The Spirit Has Benefits

Reading Time: 2 minutes

There are benefits to praying in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, the third part of the Godhead. He empowers us in the place of prayer, interceding for us when we don’t know how to pray or what to pray for.

“At that time the Holy Spirit will teach you what you must say.” Luke 12:12 ICB.

Praying in the Spirit is a great and powerful way of connecting to God. Once you have accepted Christ into your life as Lord and savior, you have a right to the Holy Spirit –

“God poured out to us that Holy Spirit fully through Jesus Christ our Saviour.” Titus 3:6 ICB.

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he told the disciples that He had to leave for them to receive the Helper (the Holy Spirit) –

“But I tell you the truth. It is better for you that I go away. when I go away I will send the Helper to you. If I do not go away the Helper will not come”. John 16:7 ICB.

After Christ’s departure, the believers received the Holy Spirit as promised, on the day of Pentecost. They received tongues of fire – praying in languages they didn’t know. That’s one way of praying in the Spirit.

You are speaking in heavenly language when praying in the Holy Ghost. It is direct access to God. Only you and God know what is spoken. God’s spirit has connected with your spirit. At that point, both spirits have become one. Praying in the Spirit thereby brings such unity of spirits that is so great.

Praying in the Spirit helps you to concentrate more on God and reduces distractions. God vividly shows you things in your spirit, you can see things through your spiritual eyes. As God reveals things to you, more faith is released in you, praises flow from you, and strength is made more available for you.

Tomorrow, we will see some more benefits of praying in the spirit as children.

Prayer:
Dear Holy Spirit, thank you for all that you are. I ask that you come upon me and teach me how to pray. Help me to pray from the heart of the father, in Jesus name. Amen.

Teaching Your Children The Importance Of Prayer

Teaching Your Children The Importance Of Prayer

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In the last post, we talked about praying from the bible. Today, we will be looking at some of the importance of prayer.

Prayer is how we connect to God, so, the more time you spend with God, the more you learn how to pray.

How does spending more time with God increase your capacity to pray?

More time spent in God’s presence helps you to develop your spiritual muscles, much the same way you put your body through a regular exercise routine to build your muscles and level of fitness. And you keep adding more minutes to it as you go on. It’s the same with prayers. This is one importance of prayer. The more you stay in God’s presence, soaking yourself into His presence, reading his word (the bible), and attending church regularly, the more you grow spiritually.

You can increase from ten minutes a day to an hour. The more you want to grow the more time you have to give to prayer. The length can even be broken down into little chunks spread over the day. You can decide to spend thirty minutes in prayers early in the morning and thirty minutes of bible reading and meditation later in the day. How you do it doesn’t matter. The major thing is that you are praying.

Another importance of prayer is that spending more time in prayer will increase your capacity to receive more from God. You get to know more things about God, discover new things about his word, and Christianity.

Sometimes, you need to spend more time with God and/or His word concerning a particular issue before you get your answer. That could be how God wants to reveal the answer to you.

Another way this will help you is in your daily life. God will give you answers or solutions to situations in your daily life. Things that will be hard for others to accomplish, you will do so fast and with little or no effort, just because God is your helper and constantly is with you. This is an importance of prayer.

God loves to spend time with you. It’s how He grows His relationship with you. You bond with Him through prayer. And the more time you spend with Him, the more the bond between the two of you grows stronger and stronger.

When your bond with God is very strong, you get many benefits that others won’t have. That’s because the God of the universe counts you as his friend. This is a very good importance of prayer.

So, increase your time with God. Add more minutes to that prayer routine today.

God bless you as you do so. May He give you strength for this. Amen.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for connecting with me in prayer. I ask that You strengthen me more as I increase my prayer time, having learnt some of the importance of prayer.

Action point:
Add five more minutes to your prayer time today. Increase it gradually as the week progresses.

Teaching Your Children How To Pray From The Bible

Teaching Your Children How To Pray From The Bible

Reading Time: 2 minutes

You should learn how to pray from the Bible. The bible is full of so many power-packed prayers from ordinary people like you and me; people who faced one issue or another at different times in bible history.

It’s a reservoir of prayers said out of fear, pain, and loneliness. Some were faced with destruction and had to cry out for help. Some more said prayers out of confusion, hopelessness, and despair.

Prayers for mercy, deliverance, and strength are found in the bible, said by people who were faced with huge challenges. This is one of the reasons you should learn to pray from the Bible.

Sometimes, God can lead you to a particular book, chapter, and verse in the bible as a guide to pray with. Remember the part where obedience was mentioned, in the last post? When directed to read from the bible, obey. That way, you get to know what God wants to teach or tell you about that burning issue in your mind.

Someone you can read about in the Bible is David. His story will encourage you to pray from the Bible. You will see the many times and ways he prayed to God. He asked for help, encouragement, forgiveness, provision, and deliverance. He even asked God to punish him alone and not the people for the sin he committed in 1 Chron. 21:1-13.

David praised and worshipped God a lot in the psalms. His prayers also show that he too had fears and prayed about them. He had hope in God to save him from all his enemies. And the Bible records that God gave him victory over all his enemies.

Learn to pray from the Bible. When David was afraid, lost, and unsure of what to do –

“Later David prayed to the Lord. David said, “Should I go up to any of the cities of Judah? The lord said to David, “Go”. David asked, “Where should I go?” The Lord answered, “To Hebron”. 1 Sam. 2:1 ICB

When he sinned against God in 2 Sam. 2:12, he owned up to it immediately – “

…I have sinned against the Lord.”

As you learn how to pray from the Bible, which includes reading and meditation from the bible, God will bless you.

Prayer:
Lord, as you lead me to read the bible, help me to grasp the meaning of what I read. Help me meditate on these readings so I can learn how to pray. Amen.

Action point:
Read some Psalms of David. Note the different ways he prayed for help, forgiveness, and other things.
